Stop. Complicating. Things.
Seriously though; I think about that every day. I’m quite close to a couple of people that sell drugs. And many that use drugs. And then I remember all of the people I have loved that the drugs have killed and how not a single person I’ve known has ever discontinued their drug use. It is always a death sentence. They are dead. They just don’t know it yet.
Also; you wouldn’t have to kill them all. Just enough to get the message across.
Another solution would be poisoning the drug supply with something like fent. Although our government tried this during prohibition and it didn’t work very well. It might be more practical today with our modern media propaganda machine to push the dangers.
So I guess we’re left with sealing our borders to consumer goods more or less, because the inspection process to find drugs has to be so thorough that it would more or less shut down a lot of types of international shipping. And I’m OK with that.

Been tried. Didn’t work. They’ve been experimenting with that on a small scale in several US cities for the past 15 years. I think a lot of European countries have done it on a larger scale. We’ve already caught the CIA manufacturing meth on a large scale at Langley. Think of what it would be like if that became legal. You know the US government would take over production.

1st, it's never been tried. Some places have legalized or decriminalized pot, but the Sinaloa Cartel isn't fighting to get you weed.
2nd, since the federal government, through the commerce clause, runs the drug laws, it must be done at the federal level.
And 3rd, even if small areas of the country actually did legalize all drugs, and the federal government respected that boundary, which they don't, that's not going to do anything for the amount of illicit drugs flooding into the rest of the country that needs to stop to put an end to drug cartels in Mexico.
So, no, this has never been tried. Once the federal government took control of the illicit drug market and made their drug schedules, cartels were formed to flood illicit drugs into this country, and with permission of the intelligencia community that uses proceeds from the black market to fuel wars in other countries. Ie the Sandinistas, Panama, Iran Contra, etc etc. The federal government has even used proceeds to attack our 2nd Ammendment through Gun Runner and Fast and Furious.

You’ve got a pretty good argument. You are essentially trying to undermine the black market incentive. Here is the only counter argument I could come up with;
Let’s take a look at other vices that have been legalized in the United States. Alcohol was legalized after Prohibition and that turned out to be an absolute shit show. Thousands of people drink themselves to death every year destroy their families and incur huge medical costs. Or take the legalization of gambling. We have a rich history in the United States of illegal numbers games being run on a local level in urban areas. Proceeds have been used to fund organized crime for the last 150 years. So we attempted to disincentivize the black market profit motive by legalizing it.Now we have Las Vegas which is using its proceeds to fund organized crime.
I'm not wild about legalizing hard drugs just due to the addiction problems that would cause, but you're absolutely right that it gets rid of the black market and associated problems that brings.

Kill your local drug dealer. I know it’s dirty work, but if we do it right we’ll only have to do it once and our children will be free of this plague.
