There's a fucktonne of things that anyone could come up with that are worse than raping a child. Torturing a child, Mutilating a child, Crippling a child, Killing a child, Eating a child, getting a child to do things like raping, torturing, mutilating, crippling, killing, or eating people (as in child soldiers).

I've been in the mental health world since I was a kid, I've had candid conversations with people who had been molested as children, they were well-adjusted people who've recovered to the point where you wouldn't know anything about it unless they (or someone else) told you, to most people they would seem perfectly normal and not at all mentally ill (especially compared to myself).

I've had yet to meet someone who recovered from being killed as a child to any degree, and those who were tortured as children - such as those who were severely assaulted or neglected as a child, were typically worse off than those who were "merely" raped as kids, probably due to the fact that such treatment has a more clear message of "you deserve to suffer" or "you don't deserve to be cared for" to it than sexual assault, which could be construed in a child's mind as having another meaning, or by an adult's mind as having an obvious ulterior motive (sexual gratification).

Not saying it's not horrible, of course it is, any of those fates are terrible and likely do have permanent effects I'm just not seeing (perhaps which they -the victims- feel are normal), but the media over-exaggerates the effects for dramatic purposes, the reality is that human beings are much better at dealing with trauma than media portrays us as being, you'd be surprised what you could accept and how little it hurts you over time if you are left to deal with it in a space that allows you to heal.

The question is unfair to begin with, comparing "which is worse" is generally not a good thing to do, because not only can there be different levels of severity among the same forms of abuse, but also that the impact of abuse takes in more factors than just the nature of the abuse itself, such as the nature of the victim, the nature of the abuser, the relationships between the two, the surrounding circumstances tat the abuse took place within, the reactions of others to the abuse, the treatment of the victim and abuser by tier society, etc. To say that one victim had it worse than another isn't as easy a call to make as you could imagine. Please don't do it again.
