true story from back in the day

submitted by con77 to Nature 2.5 yearsDec 27, 2022 12:02:53 ago (+14/-1)     (Nature)

I had a tarantula hawk fly into and sting my neck at 100 mph when I was on my motorcycle in Arizona.

I remember trying to look in the mirror as I decelerated to see if I was bleeding. It actually felt like I was stabbed in the neck.

When I got to my hotel in El Paso women in the lobby actually swooned. Men were asking me if they should call an ambulance.

it looked like a bright red 1/2 baseball that was about to burst on my neck! would not recommend.

giant wasp

Wasps that hunt tarantulas. Their venom is known to paralyze

[ - ] Her0n 0 points 2.5 yearsDec 28, 2022 07:07:53 ago (+0/-0)

Only tarantulas and other invertebrates. In vertebrates it causes extreme agony for hours and that's about it if you aren't allergic.

Perhaps it's just the pain that's paralyzing to humans then

It's recorded as one of (if not the most) painful stings. I completely doubt OPs anecdote as that sting would've had him dumping his bike and probably dying from the wreck @ 100mph.

How did the wasp latch on and have time to sting him as OP flew past it at speeds that would just have the insect explode upon impact?

Why would the wasp sting him to begin with, as these insects want nothing to do with humans and largely ignore us unless we mess with them?

There's some more plot holes I'd like answered, but we can start with these three @con77

1. I'm not a bitch. you dont bail out at 100 unless you want to die.

2. it did explode. into my neck.

3. I hit it at 100 mph.

I dont accept criticism from a couch potato thats never ridden a motorcycle or left its moms basement.

That's a lot of accusations that just flew out your ass.

The bug didn't sting you then, you lied in your story? Because now you say it exploded on impact. Which is it, stung or simply struck?

read the last line of original post again. then blow me. I notice you dont deny being a couch potato

My history here speaks for itself.

Since you're acting like a kike I'll summarize:

I homestead and have been successful at it for three years. One son born at home, no cutting, no Vax. One more baby baking currently.

I am a couch potato in the winter. I play video games and hang out with my baby lately. I am planning out my next garden as well, my wife says I'm too early on that task though.

That makes zero sense.

You lied and I called you out for it.

OUCH...one year while riding through the Black Hills near Keystone, I had a "brown recluse" drift into me and it chewed into my leg (upper rear thigh)...what a mess, required medical attention from an ambulance, they recommended I go to the hospital but I declined...to this day I have no sensation in that area of my leg...when you ride a bike there's plenty of stories.

leg...when you ride a bike there's plenty of stories.

That there is. These days mostly cagers acting up and dumb drama queen MC guys thinking they're tough

Too many "cagers" of the 3rd world subspecies and they drive like they do in their 3rd world shit holes

Bullets deflate a tire really fast

[ - ] HeyJames 2 points 2.5 yearsDec 27, 2022 12:36:13 ago (+2/-0)

Very surprised you did not get paralysis and stayed on the bike having been bit right on the neck like that. Those are hard core insects.

You made it from AZ to El paso after having been bit? Wow.

My ex sis-n-law was driving, in a car, one night with the window down. A bat smacked into the side view mirror and got stuck between the mirror and the car! The bat was screaming the sis-n-law was screaming! Hahahaha! It was Great!
And another time she was going fishing with my brother. He had caught a whole bunch of Catawba worms. The bucket he had the worms in fell over. She had fallen asleep. When she woke up she had Catawba worms crawling all over her!!! LOL

I hit a cicada or a locust right in the throat under my helmet at 50mph. Still amazed I didn't crash.

This story I can believe, OPs I just can't.

Ive rode cross country twice by myself. you cant imagine because your testosterone is so low.

[ - ] Her0n -1 points 2.5 yearsDec 28, 2022 07:11:38 ago (+0/-1)

Bullshit

How'd it latch in order to sting you?

You kept your balance after getting hit at 100mph, and were stung by one of the most painful stings at the same time?

A wasp that doesn't mess with humans unless they are being bothered by said human?

How did you even know it was a tarantula wasp for sure? How could you ID it driving 100mph on your bike and avoiding dumping your good time to eat some pavement?
