Dinner with my brother. It was so good to see him again. We made plans to get together for an early dinner once a month. If you have family that loves you, you make time for each other.
Nothing not even a phone call, i sent a message to my father but he never bothered to respond, i don't know why i bother he was a pretty shit father growing up.
My most vivid xmas memory is when i was 13 and him attempting suicide after bugging him to buy me a game after he gambled away most of the money for xmas, thats really fucking weak when i have a good think about it now.
That sucks man. I like a lot of your posts/comments so I hate to hear that.
Sounds like the relationship my dad had with his dad. That'll always weigh on him but I think it made him develop some strong values around family that served him well and was able to pass on to me. He became much more successful than his side of the family and I've become even more successful than him. Maybe all that was necessary for strength to return to our lineage?
Anyway I hope you can turn it into a strength and work hard to build yourself the good life you deserve.
Thank you for the kind words it really means a lot I am surprised i turned out how i did, growing up with alcos gave me such a warped view on the world, i really thought parents treating their kids like shit was the norm until i got to my late teens and noticed my friends were all getting help getting started in the world, the idea of someones parents doing anything for their child was just alien to me.
my parents didn't even really speak to me growing up unless it was to yell at me for something. I basically grew up with no guidance and never really developed good social skills, we had a 2 story house and my dad heard every foot step and would get pissed off so i just kept quiet.
So now I am nearly 40 and will be single forever because I am just not entertaining enough for modern women, i am okay with that though, most women are just awful have tats, kids from other relationships, or a wine & vallium addiction anyway so i dont think iam missing out on having some neurotic whore ruin what I've built for myself.
A Seth McGinn's CanCooker Jr. It's a pressure cooker for the grill. Crockpot style food in 45 minutes. These things are bad ass and make it easy to have great meals over open fire or hot coals. The perfect off grid kitchen gear. I cooked a chicken in it for Christmas dinner

Nice, sounds like something you'll get use out of. Got a pressure cooker a few years back as a gift and it's awesome for cooking beans, stews, potroast, any crockpot food quick.
Not me. Fuck. My mother was an absolute and completely unmitigated terror and three trees fell onto the power transformer, catching it on fire in the middle of the cold snap while I was out of town. I had to rush back before the solar reserve ran out so my cat wouldn't freeze.

Nice! What use do you think you’ll get out of it? My family is notoriously bad gift givers so I just get boring shit and make stuff that would usually cost a few $100 to buy. But a small mello family dinner is good enough for me.
My family is bad about boring practical gifts too but I know their heart is in the right place. I try to set a good example for them and sometimes I see it pay off.
I got a bunch of neighbors crying because pipes froze and heaters broke in the hard freeze we got. I mean, yeah it's a warm climate here but we get hard freezes every year, why didn't you insulate better? Friend and I helped out where we could but 30 year old furnaces are a problem. The band on my wristwatch broke the same day. And the world is going insane.
Ever read Robert Heinlein's short story, "Year of the Jackpot"? It's really starting to feel that way.
