The best way to understand the history of Voat.

submitted by we_kill_creativity to Voat 1.3 yearsDec 24, 2022 08:28:31 ago (+14/-1)     (Voat)

https://web.archive.org/web/20201223085446/https://voat.co/top?span=all

That is a link to the archived Voat sorted by "Top>All", meaning you get to see the top vote getting posts in the history of the site. Some of those go back basically to the beginning of the site. Take time to go through the comment sections to really understand what was going on back then.

After you go through that page, I'd suggest sorting by "Top>Year" to get the top posts from the last year of the site. You'll notice that you can sort by "Top>Quarter, Month, Week, and Day" too, and I suggest doing that.

Sure, a solid documentary should someday be made about the experience we all had there, but I think it's even cooler that a person can still interact with the ghost of the site in the way I described and truly understand the debates and issues we had.

EDIT: Some strange formatting glitch going on...I didn't type stuff out twice, it's just presenting it that way for some reason. I've tried a few things to fix it, but nothing's working.

Man it was crazy to see the KAPE/PIA/LTM conspiracies about voat shutting down actually turn out to be true.

What a roller coaster ride old voat was.

What a roller coaster ride old voat was.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

I don't know that I could ever properly explain it to anyone. You had to be there and had to be involved. Sure, there were lurkers, but they'll never understand it the way we do.

The real old voat was like this - https://files.catbox.moe/rdgjke.jpg
Then it was like this - https://files.catbox.moe/a6u7yx.png
Then it was like this - https://files.catbox.moe/jpmikb.jpg
For a short period of time it was like this - https://files.catbox.moe/njfwcg.png
Then it went waaaay downhill like this - https://files.catbox.moe/dt1mtj.jpg
And then finally, some disclosure before shutdown - https://files.catbox.moe/l2guco.jpeg

Much nostalgia. Do you have the qtard invasion comic by chance? The one with Ben garrison and the chainsaw? Man, the voat comics were the best. What was the one where the redditfugee was warned not to open the door and does anyway only to find sanegoat trying to groom him...I might not be rembering that right.
Fuck, I miss voat. Honeypot, social experiment, just a bunch of rewards screaming into the void; Whatever the hell it was it was great.

"We couldn't ban him, so we just made him a moderator."

Huh...? Someone please explain the logic to me.

SBBH logic. Everyone was benned at some point, then unbanned, then banned again. For everything, for nothing. And when they couldn't ban him, they made him a mod. It was basically just a game.

It is funny because voat didn't really start out as what it is now. I remember there was some role playing enthusiast AerotesForgeHammer or something like that as well as the highly paid orgy pro faggot that loved the site. Even that faggot LockeProposal that used to make awesome history anecdote posts used a userscript to overwrite all his comments and he nuked his account when voat became too pro-White for him. Slowly the retarded, fag loving niggers faded away and there was a glorious golden age of about a year and a half before the Q shit started. The pizzagate thing was borderline spammy but they weren't nearly as bad as Q.

At least that's how I remember it given my intermittent usage.

The end of the site started with Srayzie and Crensch. They divided and conquered just like I said they would. Then putt called them "builders" and everybody else destroyers. It was a sad day. That's when I knew it was all jewd and had been taken over at some point.

That was super gay and retarded and offputting.

Voat was an riddle wrapped in an enigma that never ceased to entertain me. The funniest thing to me, when it comes to voat history, has to be the @she ruse. The user that was primarily the reason the immune system came into existence never left. I still don't know if @kevdude figured out that trigglypuff was @she or not. Pretty ironic that he ended up siding with her all things considered. Perhaps he knew the whole time.
Runner-up, for me, has to be sanegoat.

"Some strange formatting glitch going on ..."

It is the greater than sign screwing up formatting.

Right, that's what I thought and tried to edit those out, but it didn't save that. Last time I had this problem @system had to manually change it.
