He's saying he's too fucking retarded to run a real browser with uBlock Origin, and he is extremely proud that he's a room-temperature IQ NPC luddite faggot and has to do the exact same thing uBlock would do for him instantly, but manually and with a bunch of extra steps.
It's cute, really. Watching the dumb ones so proud when they think they're smart. I enjoy it, and you should, too.
Unfortunately those kind of apps are unavailable on my 4k TV, because it's a smart TV, because of course it's a fucking smart TV, and as much as you can mitigate some of the ads by blocking the manufacturer and known advertising IP addresses on your router, you can't install anything but the most gated of apps - none of which are ad blockers.
I'm only seeing the ads because I let my "free family premium" lapse cos I can't be bothered to go through the hurdles to get it, or pay them their money for premium and ensure I cost them more than I give cos fuck em, that's why
First, stop using a "smart TV" to consoom content. If you have to get the content, plug in a laptop or something that you CAN run whatever you want on.
Second, get a Pi and install PiHole on it. You'll have to do some reading to set it up, but it's worth it. It will block ads for every device on the network, since it just replies with a bullshit IP address that doesn't go anywhere.
While you're at it, read up on how to use it with Unbound, and you'll be free of DNS blocks from your ISP as well.
My setup is as follows when something tries to look up an address:
1. PiHole checks to see if it's in the blocklist. If it is, "0.0.0.0" is the reply. 2. If it's not on the blocklist, it asks Unbound. If Unbound has the IP, it replies. If not; 3. Unbound queries a root server directly. No ISP DNS servers. No Jewgle DNS. No CloudKike. Straight from the DNS root.
As a bonus, PiHole can also be setup to act as your DHCP server. This opens up the possibility of choking off the TV completely, since you can put one line in a config file to simply ignore any/all DHCP requests from the TV. It can't phone home if it can't get an IP address.
I learned long ago the best protection from government surveillance is a bigger and more tyrannical government.
Seriously, I've had my arse saved more than once by the fact that whenever one of my devices gets plugged into a government system it ends very badly for the government system.
Call me a madman all you like, but I've seen "exhibit A" turn into, "The data extraction computer kept crashing, then stopped working, another extraction computer was tried, this too crashed, it was decided not to continue"
I don't need to be smarter than them, they need to be smarter than Chinese signals intelligence
I have a nice router and modem already that I was using previously. They drop like $40 from my bill monthly for using theirs and give unlimited data. Yeah I know, they are spying and fucking me over.
[ - ] Hobama 1 point 2.5 yearsJan 4, 2023 12:19:46 ago (+1/-0)
They do leave it open for other customers but you can disable that, which i obviously did. I’ll have to set up my router as a relay and disable the broadcast on theirs.
SmartTV's are cheaper (since they can subsidize revenue off adds forever after you plug it in and connect it to the Internet..) so the poor wagie's and boomers buy them and think they made a smart decision.
Not this nigger acting like he's high tech because he knows what an ad-blocker is yet can't figure out how to run his own media center and just raw dogging smart tv ads.
I know a dumb fuck boomer that is dumb enough to be proud of his brutal ignorance and ineptitude as if it was a badge of honor. His insights in his "clever" use of the internet make me throw up a little and leave the room for fear the stupid is contagious. He still struggles with basic typing and figuring out where the address bar is...
Yeah statistically I probably ought to pay for YT, given how much I actually use it in the past few years. I didn't used to, and I don't have the patience for videos, but then I discovered some stuff that I can watch at night when I'm more or less relaxing to go to sleep. It's weird because I pay for Sirius and most other services. But I guess the ads are unobtrusive enough it just hasn't seemed worth it. If you add up all those 5s, I guess it's bad.
Have you tried using adblock. On a device that doesn't let you install adblock? Throw that in the trash. If you can't control it and it does things you dislike it's probably doing other things you dislike.
I used to love Opera back in the day, but I rarely use Opera anymore since they were bought by the Chinese. I prefer Vivaldi these days, and one of Vivaldi's founders was also an original founder and CEO of Opera, so the original Opera spirit lives on.
99% of the time, I use Brave Browser so I had no idea what you were talking about. Buuuuut..... I cannot install Brave on my work computer. I don't generally use YouTube on my work computer but I tried out your suggestion and it worked. So, thanks for the info.

You'll have some options.
Choose one that looks good to you.
Options exist for blocking ads, ads + adult content, etc.

For background noise, not that I'd ever actually watch TV.
