It will be hard to ban all of mastodon and the fedi because there are literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions of domains on the fedi, so the current method of banning domain links won't work.

Spam and malicious info can be posted on Mastodon just like they were (and to some extent still are) on Twitter, and if Twitter is fighting spam then some of those links will be banned. I suspect few if any instances of legitimate links on Mastodon being banned will be noted, though I could be wrong.

Most major mastodon links are blocked and it has nothing to do with spam. Poast, for example, is blocked and there is virtually no spam on poast. Graf does a good job with that.
