Tobacco doesn't, but all the shit they put in industrialized cigarettes does. The industry is to blame for that, not for tobacco itself.

I had a couple of roommates that switched from Camel's and cheap-o's to roll-your-owns and the difference was staggering.
They seemed healthier, didn't feel the urge to smoke nearly as much, and I didn't feel ill every time I was around the smoke.
And I could always tell when they had splurged for a pack of commercial brand because the old burning in the eyes and lungs would come back.

I grew some sacred tobacco over the Summer and that stuff kicked like a mule.
It's obvious why the natives used it for poison darts.

I mean breathing in burning tobacco is not great for you. But it's not as bad as smoking cigarettes.

Also, I feel like anything will give you cancer if you do it enough. Cigarettes just happen to be something people can't stop doing.

I quit though, FWIW. I quit because I only ever liked smoking when I was drunk. After I quit getting drunk, I didn't want to smoke any more.

There are ways to get people to quit smoking (or any bad habit, for that matter) that don't involve treating -- and essentially referring to -- them as tax-cattle, property of the state, not to be allowed to become a financial burden.

It seems when a working-class people can be replaced just like that, they lose value as human beings.

I knew an old man from Latvia during the war. Said they'd rather be invaded by Germans than Soviets. He drank and smoked up heavily from age 5 to 12. Quit and never went back. Kids will never have that experience again
