THIS IS NOT NEW i think i saw an article that made the same claims years ago. oh and btw, electric lines can also be used to transport internet data. some countries have internet through power lines

All they're going to get from me is my summer vacation photos and my detailed plans to take over the world using my charm and finesse.

I used a filter for my vacation photos so I look good and my plans for world domination can be altered to fear and violence.

Not worried.

This isn't new, it's called T.E.M.P.E.S.T.

It's super top secret - doesn't require a warrant of any kind - and in the USA, employing technologies to counter tempest is illigal (though of course they don't tell you what that might be)

OP is correct, it is old, Tempest, 2600 wrote about it in the 90s.
There are countermeasures, they are all pretty fancy.

A few paragraphs in:

Firstly, the targeted system must have certain malware pre-installed on it, which can only be done via physical access to the machine.

Conditions such as that really need to be within or immediately after the headline.

Besides that this was probably only accomplished in a ridiculously controlled machine and environment, and the true data recovered was still in a mess of white noise create by all the other processes running on the system. A simple test would be having a large text file unknown to the researcher, have someone else open it, and this researcher determines what is in the text file. I figure it would be less than 1% correct, and more likely bordering on 0%.

Not that far fetched. Idiots pick up USB sticks off the ground and try them all of the time. Stuxnet.

Regarding OP's commentary - Internet over power lines only functions over short distances. Power lines act as antennas and pick up too much noise across a wide range of frequencies. It is useful for a local network, ie a house, or at most a few small structures built very close to each other. The ethernet over power line devices you can buy are only good for about 1000ft of wire. Everyone that has attempted it at any larger scale has abandoned it - both commercial entities and governments.

lo and behold, you know what also released this month?

ATX 3.0 a new power standard for PC power, what are the new features?

It can now have data lines to communicate with hardware, i wonder if data can be sent to PSUs and then the PSU sends it out via the power lines.

The method was developed by Mordechai Guri, a researcher at Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba, Israel,

Every single time. Imagine my shock.
