I think it's funny that they'll advertise something as stainless steel or whatever, and what they mean is stainless steel veneer. It's supported by plastic. Which I guess makes sense. Your solid steel fridge would weigh a lot, which is good for surviving nuclear blasts I guess.
I think homedepot has stealyourbike black colored refrigerators. While your there get a matching coalburner blackeye colored coffeemaker, really pulls the room together.
I owned an appliance repair company since 2004. The most durable of the affordable appliances in the 1960's through to 1975 were Maytags. [Speed Queens are not affordable but are always the best] After that, Whirlpool were and remain the best lasting and easiest to repair affordably. I just moved in June this year and for my new hime, it's basic Whirlpools all the way. Fridge, Dishwasher, Washing Machine and especially their Dryer with the lint screen on top. These dryers are very affordable but get them because they are the only fire safe design out there at any price. And of course, mine are all off white.
in the 1960's cars had flashier colors, and some household appliances were blue, tan, brown, pink and red. In the 70's, lots were avocado green and harvest gold colored. Today's cars are mostly subdued colors and appliances are too often black or have a stainless steel (usually aluminum) facade.

Sigh. Facade = fake and gay.
