Interesting how the north is projected notably, but the south is not. I wonder how far skewed the projection is to the north vs the south, and if it is to 'assert dominance' or something else.

It's more skewed the farther away you go from the equator and the equator goes through Africa. Add Antarctica to the bottom and actually draw the equator and it would be easier to understand.
