The possibilities of the internet used to be wide open and unknown. But nowadays I'm keenly aware of the limits of every site that I go to and because of network effects there aren't enough smaller sites to fill in the gaps.
I'm gonna call this list of examples optional reading. You can choose to read them if you like but if you don't like feel free to do something else with your time.
- YouTube you're gonna get a very particular range of videos. - Twitter you're gonna get a specific format of dialog. - Voat is the only free speech site on the internet but its size and the format limits it - Image sharing sites you're gonna a political agenda wrapped in cheap shallow laughs, tits, and cat pics - Search engines you're gonna get an extremely limited set of tools to do the search and an extremely limited result set. - News sites are political rags - Things that used to be called tech and science sites now serve only political slop
To me, when you keep in mind how things seems to always happen in this society, it is like websites can only take a variety of forms if they are to gain popularity and so the internet feels extremely narrow compared to its true potential.
Dead Internet Theory. Even many of the core Internet users (nerds) have transitioned from using a PC to the phone and its walled garden environment. Many of the oldest forums that were popular have declined severely or shut down entirely.
Also keep in mind that your memory is myopic. The perceived pace of the world and events is faster now, even if it is artificial or a mind trick. I distinctly remember loving the Internet of 15-20 years ago, but the pace was slower. There was a lack of new content. Threads would last for days on 4chan. There was a flood of content for a few years 2008-2014 as everyone got 'online', until the most popular platforms began restricting their users.
A portion of us get shoah'd and move on to something new. Then that one gets shut down and fewer users migrate to the next.
Younger generations never knew what it was like and wouldn't know where to start to look for a place like this, limiting future growth. The kikes prefer that we stay balkanized.
Oh man, the BBS days were great - but that's because the alternative was no communication at all. What would be great would be the feel of the BBS days, but with today's internet speeds.
Someone likes some thing it gets an up vote. The next 2 up voted have half the power the next 4 have less it would take a shit load of people to actually upvote something for it to move up.
No clue if this would work or if some artist has a better idea. I just hate the click bate shit we have these days. Keep reading click to the next page and the story sucks and never goes any where.

Don't know how to replicate that, though.
