I'd be hard pressed to think of a system of enslaving an entire populace more perfect than diabetes.

Imagine being so dependent on society's continued function for your life that you can't risk doing anything that would cause you to fall out of good standing with the owners or revolt in any way because any of that would mean your insulin and medication supply might cease.
The same society that churns out so much corrupted food that leads to diabetes in the first place.
