I miss that style. Because they weren't making new forms for the body every year it could be cheaper. But that's not the goal of modern products. They have to be expensive on purpose to justify a higher price.

Ovals and split windows are gorgeous vehicles.

Jeez my mother had a beetle from that vintage. I remember the back window was really really tiny. I also remember that it rusted out so badly that towards the end you could see the road through the floorboards. The thing was like a tin can, thanks gawd it was never in an accident. Detroit was building those huge sedans back then and any one of them would have gone through our beetle like it wasn't even there. No seat belts, us kids crawling all over the place all the while whining "Are we there yet???", the adults smoking like chimneys with the windows rolled up. Damn those really were the days.

The first car that I ever drove by myself. I believe I was around 8 or 9 years old. My grampa let me drive his down to the end of the driveway.
When I was younger my mom and her sister would take the little bug when going shopping. I can remember riding home in the space behind the back seat, with all the grocery bags, (brown paper bags).
We all loved that little car!
