I always show at the very least a logical reason. I don't just spout off things for no reason. Some issues require a lot of research to even get a worthwhile direction to go in. Especially if the circumstance is unique, you have to bridge the gap from what is known to unknown. That takes imagination and creativity, the published research isn't enough to give a concrete direction to follow.

You have to go in circles looking for patterns, at what point are you actually seeing the pattern or just succumbing to confirmation bias?
