Took us off the direct benefit system (pension) and put us on the defined contribution system (401k) Now you're resposible for taking risk with your own money in a market that you dont understand. Early withdrawal penalties, late withdrawl penalties, IRS will certainly get their pound of flesh, now here's the kicker. some 90% of baby boomers pensions are tied up in the same market. When they die-off, cash out in waves, the market and your 401k goes down with it. They robbed the grandchildren of the babyboomers before they were even born.
Same in Australia. It's called superannuation here and we're encouraged to invest "ethically". You might lose the lot, but at least you saved the world from climate change.
