Historian David Irving Shares His Thoughts

Dear XXX

Those who have dealt with me before, know that I usually send out an encouraging letter about now, telling everybody what book I am working on right now, what's new, and what our governments are doing to inform us in detail of what they have been doing in past years. That's the Job of the historian, as I have said - finding out what-happened-and-why. Or in my case, finding what really happened and why.

I have ventured briefly over to northern Florida again for a second time this year, as we British have defeated the Pandemic and are still not entirely sure who started it: we'll leave explaining that to our American friends. It's cost us over a hundred thousand lives until now, and much sorrow besides, and I can thank my far-flung family for my survival; one daughter is in Australia with her handsome husband and family, the other daughters are in London or Europe, or (one) at peace above. I have been working for the last months on Volume III of my Winston Churchill biography, which has taken longer than I wanted and turned up discomforting new facts all along: I have dealt with the infamous Teheran, Yalta, and Potsdam conferences using private papers and diaries, and the records which have slowly been allowed into the British official archives, about which more shortly. My work has produced the first half of my biography of Heinrich Himmler, Germany's ill-fated SS and police-chief, which has been well received by a largely disbelieving German public - disbelieving, because of my opening conclusion that he was murdered by us on May 23, 1945 - a murder in which a QC, the highest form of barrister, was complicit. He did not kill himself as is the Allied version. In fact, I have now deduced that many more commanders met that fate: the archives support my view, both British and American, but only be cause I have been open-minded about what I will find. It is not the way, needless to say, to great wealth.

In short, Britain's much-praised hero, Mr Churchill, was a war-criminal by any standard, and history has been changed to meet requirements. The British archives have finally revealed evidence that he gave orders in 1944 for the immediate execution without trial, upon capture and identification, of fifty to one hundred top German officials including Reich Ministers and civilian gauleiters. A British (or American) attempt was made on July 20 1944, to assassinate Adolf Hitler, Germany's elected head of state; it failed, and the traitors were duly caught, tried and executed - and have puzzlingly been hailed as heroes by the Germans (i.e., U.S. govermment), ever since. These are some of the novedades. With my daughter Paloma's help I have moved into a rented flat in London since I was evicted during the Pandemic. It is comfortable, and I have a "daily" who comes once a week. (Paloma's business was ruined like many others because of the Pandemic.) My paintings grace many my walls, including a painting of my eldest daughter, Josephine. The British economy has tanked, but is sure to mend. My venerable Rolls-Royce has just turned forty.

I don't trust publishers, having slowly realised - found out - how many are in foreign pay; my first brave U.K. publisher in 1963 was not, but is alas deceased, like Josephine. Thank you so much for all the support encouragement and kindness over the years. Without it I would not have been able to become an established author. Like the Rolls, I hope to be around for some while yet. I wish you all a great Christmas, when it comes.

With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,

Can't say I've read him - but am open to doing it. I have Hitler's War.

He seems kind of a lonely sort. Which I suppose isn't surprising. Some 10 years ago a female friend of mine was in regular correspondence with him and it digressed rather quickly into him hitting on her and trying to get her to move in with him wherever he was in Florida at the time.

True. It points to a larger issue I think he has touched on before. There aren't a lot of prizes as it were in being a dissident historian or dissident anything. Irving comes off kinda high end but he's said himself he has sacrificed money for doing what he does. By now he's long since become an old man having to hit on strangers he's never met for companionship.

Thanks very much for this. It is good to know David Irving is still alive, let alone working. Is there a source for this communication?
