To all you preppers. Have you written down the phone numbers and addresses of everybody you care about on a piece of paper? Do you have a local paper road map a state road map and a national roadmap? Wouldn't hurt even to have a world map just in case you have to go somewhere else.
Phones and computers can fail and they often fail. Think about what would you do if you didn't have a GPS or a phone or some other device like that and you had to get from here to 150 miles away in a hurry. How would you know how to go? How would you know how to go check on friends and relatives?
You don't have all the maps downloaded? Who cares about cell towers. Digital is way more convenient than paper. What if your home burns down and you can only carry out what you have at hand?
But do you really think that if you need to be using paper maps that the phone system will still be working? I mean you are not wrong... by all means write important phone numbers down. I just don't think it will ever really come up. If I have a working phone, I probably have access to phone numbers
lol traveling would be the worst thing you could do. raiders are gonna take your shit and make you suck their dicks before they kill and eat you. if anything get a cb and ham radio.
also have an app that uses osm and download the maps you need. I'm trying organic maps right now, and used osmand in the past.
Don't forget knot apps/books, survival apps/books, etc.
Try to learn enough electricity stuff to set up batteries, chargers, solar. It isn't too expensive to have a setup what can keep your phone and modem powered up.
If thats your directive, you need to rethink what saving your own ass means. Good health and stamina before phone list. Food to fuel stamina. Fuck the relatives, nothing matters outside your pack. Trust nobody, prep for alone time. EVERYONE GOES TO HEAVEN!! Not everyone gets to stay.
WRONG AGAIN! One trained can clear 3 stories of 2 bedrooms in less than one hour with less than 5 engagements in total structure. Been there, done that. Two a days have new meanings. When you are good you do two as a warm-up. I was trained to execute tasks given and I breath today
As an individual moving through a structure, the best you'll get without overlapping fields of fire, is concealment, rather than cover.
Now keep in mind clearing structures is offensive, and relies on CQB. CQB is small unit tactics. Unfortunately a unit is never just one soldier.
Even given a unit, correct CQB, correct use of cover, structure clearing is a high risk action.
You can clear most of a room by yourself by playing the angles of course, but that still leaves dead space and hard corners from outside a room. And by yourself what does that mean/ Thats right, the only way to solve it is to do a dynamic entry, to seize the initiative. And at best this limits the risk.
And the risk increases substantially depending on the type of room. If it's center fed, theres basically no way to cover both corners at the same time by yourself, no matter how you slice the pie. Might as well try to cut the Gordian knot.
Better to get a survivalist friend, a battlebuddy.
99% chance you will never reach your bug out bag. Bring your brain, and hope it's enough. The time when "it happens" is precisely when you did not expect it to.
Nope. First the phones stop working. Then the internet goes down.
That is when you dig out since everyone else including enforcement will be sitting around with their dick in their hand waiting for orders from the jews on who to fuck.
Land navigation is not a skill picked up on the fly.
Every state has land navigation courses usually on state parks.
If you ask a local ROTC program for information on their course they can probably get you a copy of their map/test.
It's pretty fun teaching people how it works as putting it into practice takes actual effort and pays off when you score a perfect on a navigation course.
Another basic skill that used to be taught in HS. 1st or 2nd year in geography class, we went through all map types and how to read them, then we actually went outside with a compass and learned how to properly orient ourselves.
Everyone I actually care about is within a few miles of me. Sure I have family scattered around that I'm supposed to take care of in such an event, but if they choose to live in a big blue nonwhite city then there's not much I can offer them from a survival aspect.
Those of us in the Family who live in the rural area will survive, and the urbanites who make it here will basically be used as unskilled labor work horses cause that's all they'll be good for.
I'm not going to stress myself out over what someone who is woefully unprepared and complacent does.
When we evacuated St Pete to Ft Pierce for hurricane Irma, we found ourselves basically stuck on the east coast of Florida for a few days. We were towing our camper - full of shit from he house. You couldn’t get gas anywhere without being in a 3 hour line. I had 25 gallons of fuel in tanks to run my generator and several propane tanks. Basically every road across the state below I4 was either washed out, flooded, or shut down as they cleared trees out of the way. Because the power and cell coverage was out over a broad area, your phone’s map was useless as a navigation tool. If you did get a slight signal, It would redirect us back through country roads to come across the state because no one could report the road was blocked or flooded. There were thousands of cars driving around pointlessly in the middle of nowhere because they were following the phone. Lots and lots of cars abandoned because they ran out of gas.
I always carry a state map in my truck. The map gave me all of the roads and a better perspective of the surrounding country areas and was crucial since the phone was useless. I knew we were fucked and I couldn’t just keep driving because I couldn’t refuel easily. It’s extremely hard to do a fuel line into a crowded gas station full of frazzled crackers and Massholes while towing a fucking camper….
We pulled into a campground in Lake Placid that didn’t have too much damage and ran off my generator for a day. I finally was able to get gas 2 days after the storm, and the campground had power later that day. On the third day they finally opened a road (not named I4- which was a traffic jam) so we could get across the state. We drove for almost 300 miles in shit traffic to get back to Pinellas county- it should’ve been roughly 120… Even then, the phone map would freak out because of traffic stops as crews removed trees and reroute you in some absurd detour. I had to go by physical map and logic to avoid any river or body of water…
And after all that our house out on the beach didn’t even fucking lose power. Just a few palm fronds blown under the tiki hut….
Get yourself two 200 W solar panels for 89 dollars each on amazon. Or get yourself one of those fold out 300 W lightweight solar panels with a battery charger for about 300 bucks. Then you won't need your generator and you won't worry about running out of gas for your generator.
I use a pair of 200w panels to charge my batteries and run a small fan. It can do the fridge, but the fridge actually runs cooler on propane than 120, so unless I’m hooked to a 30amp, I use the tanks. I use a 2000k Honda inverter generator for the AC. Sometimes I’ll line 2 together parallel if we are running everything at once. 6 gallons lasts all day long …. I’d need a charge controller, battery storage, a 2k+ inverter, 4+ 500w panels…. You’re talking over $2500 just to start, and depending on how many big assed heavy deep cycle batteries you want to lug around will only have 4-12 hours of reserve if the sun ain’t shining. It tends to be a bit warm in Florida….
