The British Empire fucked over about everybody at one point or another. It also gave us the modern world basically. Most of these people probably like railroads and modern infrastructure over living in tipis.
No doubt. Most of the others barely showed up. The French lost North America for that reason.
And though Ireland is kinda seen as the Empire's first victim by 1778 the papist laws were repealed and we were fighting micks in redcoats. By the Battle of Waterloo the British army was probably anywhere from 1/5 to 1/3 Irish Catholic.
The Irishman as foot soldier of the British Empire is a story not often told. Even post-independence Irish nationals can serve in the British army. I knew an Australian Mosleyite fascist who was friendly to the IRA yet fought in the Falklands War!
How dare you invade our country! And teach us your language. And how to sail. And trade. And railroads. And roads, human rights, take away our right to enslave, kill, and be our own kind of asshole to each other.
I don't know if it was 'racism', but the urge to control aggressively the world was certainly present. Exactly as their cousins, the americans, do now.
Technically they are correct but it was a racism of one White tribe towards another. The name "Welsh" is actually Anglo-Saxon for foreigner. The Saxon's migrated en masse to Britain after the Romans finally left. At first they were invited there by the native Britains as mercenaries to fend off Nordic Vikings, but the Saxons brought their women and children along and became Anglo-Saxons. The Welsh are foreigners in their own land, lol.
