America really do struggle in any sport other countries take seriously. And rugby is the national sport of Wales with soccer only a minority sport played in South Wales, so the whole “Americans don’t care about soccer” isn’t a valid defence here either. Funny that a country of nearly 350mm people are so talentless in athletic endeavours.
I don't have a lot invested in this. I share the alt-right aloofness from sportsball - if maybe a more restrained contempt. I'm a boxing guy, after all - if more as a historical interest. America is a country in serious decline in terms of the quality of the individual member of the population though. If Russia is a big man that can't move - America is a big man that does his fighting with technology.
But it is interesting even as far back as 1936 that the US lost the medal table to Germany. Granted this was in Berlin but it wasn't close. Almost 2-1 vs. a country about half its size.
