Please tell me there's some nuance to this case. Like he actually went out of his way to defame the parents.
Or is it really that simple? AFAIK there are two elements to defamation 1. falsehood and 2. harm.
So the court has to figure out what's true. A lot of this stuff is grey area e.g. Pfizer's vaccine is unsafe, my HOA broke the law, or Baer's insecticide pills killed my dog.
The above are not clearly opinions/perceptions. OTOH saying the MN Vikings suck or that organic milk yellow is probably okay??
Could a guy say something like "I conclude Sandy Hook never happened." That's true so it can't be defamation, right? But is it really so different from saying "Sandy Hook never happened!" It's pretty clear his entire show is opinion. So how did the court come to such a ridiculous judgement?
They all played their parts very well. Many of his listeners swung back in to the herd of sheep with his "apology". Others dug in deeper with their AJ worship! And Everyone had a frolicking good time watching the circus part of their bread and circus. While all the circus performances were going on the statement that this guy makes was coming true.
There has never been free speech for people that have a large audience. Alex Jones was sued yes, but all the people that listen to his broadcast weren't sued.
If you want to be famous you have to play by different rules because civilization is mass psychological manipulation. You as an individual can go say and believe whatever you want as along as you're not trying to convince someone else. But as soon as you get an audience you become a target. And if your audience becomes too large, and you become too influential, then someone will want a cut of what you have. Nothing remarkable about this whatsoever.

In court they argued Jones knew, all along, it was real but then he was saying it was fake on purpose in order to defame the victims. AJ had a lousy defense, honestly. Plus the judge was obviously corrupt.
Jones lawyer really fucked him when he sent his entire phone to the defense on "accident". Also Jones fucked himself by changing his mind and apologizing. He should have doubled down and made those parents dig the kids up to prove they were dead how they died and that they were yours.
