Adventures In Audiobooks - Agatha Christie is Amazingly Racist

submitted by TheViciousMrPim to whatever 2.5 yearsNov 18, 2022 07:41:35 ago (+19/-0)     (whatever)

I started listening to audiobooks because I was bored listening to music at work. I used to be a hardcore Dead Tree or Nothing reader. If it wasn't printed on a piece of paper it wasn't a book. But then I got bored. So I started listening to books.

I discovered 1, it can be fun. 2, its very quick. This is to me the main point here. I can listen an entire book while working. So...

Agatha Christie is Amazingly Racist. Everyone hates everyone. The English hate the French and everyone hates the Americans and a chink is a chink. Everyone is sexist and classist and is hilarious.

I'm not sure what to think. It's beach reading at best. It's fluffy trash. But it's so hilariously racist and classist and sexist that it's awesome.

My little grey cells and moustaches are erect.

I must recommend audiobooks

Agatha Christie's original title for "And Then There Were None" was "Ten Little Niggers". Absolutely true.

It is still called that on the leatherbound really old edition my dad has in his book collection. It might actually be a first edition, but I kind of doubt it. it's just old enough to still have its real title.

That was always one of my favorites, regardless of the title.

I'll have to read it, sooner rather than later. I read several of her books last year and loved them. Her Poirot books are very entertaining, charming, and keep your interest until the last page. I'm not crazy about her Miss Marple character, but maybe I'll need to read more of that series.

The Hobbit / Lord of the Rings read by Robert Inglis is still one of the best and most based audio books ever.

Hell yeah brother. I'll check it out. I am a voracious listener. Think I've gone through 66 books this year alone.

If you like high fantasy I highly recommend The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Incredible narrator and story. Not pozzed.

You can still buy Ten Little Niggers on Amazon if you read Dutch or Russian. Get it while you can.

I read an average of a book every 4-7 days this way. It is the way. So I plow though content I otherwise wouldn't be able to.

Amazing for traffic.

I still have that curmudgeonly ludditic attitude toward audiobooks, even though I have somehow amassed an enormous library of them.

I should really probably switch to those instead of listening to those talking head assholes to catch up on the news of the day on my beers on the boat evenings.
