More or less the Japanese were no real threat to us, they wanted to expand but the area they wanted was British controlled. So the US started doing what it has been doing for however long, stuck it's nose into it. Supplied aid to the opposition, placed an embargo on oil to Japan and more or less sent manpower to help fight them.
