Another reason to hate the Federal Bureau of Intimidation.

Thank you, Joe_McCarthy.

Libgen is great and LibGenesis has a desktop application that uses the brilliant IPFS (inter planetary file system) technology too. Understand that, like many peer-to-peer technologies, IPFS will broadcast the IP address of your node, so use a VPN.

I had seen the libgen stuff before but never sat down long enough to give it a serious look.

Are you aware of any non-Windows clients? I don't run surveillance state/sharecropper OSes.

What's z-library?

[ - ] IfuckedYerMum 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 12:44:51 ago (+1/-0)

It's a site for downloading ebooks, because fuck paying $30 for a book, especially a digital copy.

You can thank the imbeciles on tiktok and the Author's Guild.

In October 2022, TikTok blocked hashtags related to Z-Library after it gained popularity there and the Authors Guild submitted a complaint to the United States Trade Representative.[2][21] On November 3, 2022, many of Z-Library's domain names were seized by the United States Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation in response to a court order.[7][3][6] As of November 4, 2022, the Z-Library staff has only noted a hosting issue, and has not noted otherwise; the website's hidden service on the Tor network was still accessible.

This is also how you know major sources of information aren't legit.

If for example, gab, and infowars were legit, they would have been shut down through DNS.

It's also how you know the daily stormer is. But he's shut down for being a jew going against the narrative, which is dangerous because other jews might leave the middlemanager plantation of subversives by sheer herd dynamics. He's allowed to continue to be free, or even stay alive because (arguably) he can be used to make those who support his message, look insane to the broader society. There is value in allowing 'madmen' to rant.

Rather, almost everything you see is limited hangouts allowed to go on existing and supported on the periphery of the state's propaganda operations, to form the boundaries around not acceptable discourse per se, but what the state deems pseudoacceptable, i.e. "fringe."

There are two overtons windows, not one. The overtons window that that the public finds acceptable (which the state would have you believe is narrow than it actually is), and the overtons window the state finds acceptable, (which is wider than the first, but narrow than you might assume).

The free, unfettered, uncommercial, flow of information, actively damages the state, because the technological aspects of the information age give power to those who control its distribution and access.

Hence amazon. hence youtube. hence steam. hence 'disinformation'.
Hence the FBI coming out for 'its ok to be white' signs--because its not simply the message, its the message and the fact it was put out circumnavigating the institutions that vet who has access to public eyeballs.

Truth is terrorism. And every maverick that tells the truth will be treated like a terrorist. Every man who undermines the commercial control of information, (hence the description of the west as the merger of corporations and state), will be treated with the same globes as they treat terrorists.

This is the most dangerous approach, because it is the most effective.

It's why they killed aaron swartz, its why a ton of docters speaking against state propaganda about covid, died in mysterious accidents. It's why breibart was murdered by the american intelligence complex.

Information is the key, the means by which they gatekeep, most of congress, the senate, the executive, wallstreet, major universities, and countless institutions.

It is both the opiate of the public, through entertainment, and the means of education, or else propagandization.

The media, all media, are the enemy, and the front-face of the western and u.s. military-intelligence state.

They're a leg in the three legged table of world affairs.

What happens when you knock out one of the legs?

Make America Great Again?

Make Journalists And Subversive Spies Afraid Again.

I dont know. I just tried the site to look up some study and I got this shit.

I need to be very clear, I went to reddit to see the TOR workaround and bring the link back, but I did not actually "go to reddit". Search sees em talking bout it there. Someone compared it to Alexandria Burning down.

Anyway, the guy here says TOR can still reach it
https://www.reddit.com/r/zlibrary/comments/ylmkqq/a_workaround_yall_tor_browser_works_click_send_to/

This is the onion link so no one else has to dirty their dns

I dont use TOR so no idea where it leads

[ - ] beece 6 points 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 00:34:57 ago (+6/-0)

Tried it and get a signup page. I don't recall having to sign up previously. Methinks the FBI has it by the Gonads. The free speech thing is being closed off slowly, much like boiling frogs.

[ - ] thoughtcryme 2 points 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 00:40:37 ago (+2/-0)*

I will not dispute your concern, it is valid. Other users on related posts said the same thing, others assured them it worked and login was only when downloading more then some limit daily. I have no idea. Caution advised.

I know I had zlib bookmarked and I think I've used it before and I know I would never have registered a user.
Others said it never had a login either. TOR lost its appeal for me long ago (compromised node = gotcha) so I dont mess with it much.

[ - ] MagicMushroom 2 points 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 05:55:51 ago (+2/-0)

Instead of TOR, try using i2p, which offers greater anonymity. i2p is currently probably the best way of distributing files. The easiest way to get started is by using muwire:

https://muwire.com came up as not secure and not https on my end

Use a proxy if you must visit Big Tech websites. There are several instances for each one:

Reddit --> Teddit: https://codeberg.org/teddit/teddit
Twitter --> Nitter: https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/wiki/Instances
Youtube --> Invidious: https://github.com/iv-org/invidious
Privacy Redirect (auto redirects to privacy respecting proxy): https://github.com/SimonBrazell/privacy-redirect

Voat --> Aether: https://getaether.net (Aether is a distributed, privacy respecting, Free Speech platform

OR

Voat --> Plebbit (Bleeding edge but available on multiple platforms) https://github.com/plebbit/plebbit-react/releases

Matrix isn't bad either for real time chat. I never found much content on Aether. Is it more active these days?

[ - ] MagicMushroom 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 09:19:52 ago (+1/-0)

Aether is designed to be ephemeral, like words spoken in conversation, comments drop out of view after the default 6 months, unless there has been interaction with them, in which case, they do not go stale.

There has been a slight increase in the small number of users lately. People go where the content is. Where is the content from old Voat now? Gone. Nowhere. Lost. Where will the content from Talk.lol be if and when it is closed? Also, gone, along with its community, which is culled every time the site is lost.

With Aether, even if every node is eliminated, if one node survives, it can keep the other nodes keep the network running till people recreate new nodes. Because it is text only, there is only a tiny usage of internet resources. The community could survive indefinitely on Aether, instead of being decimated every time Voat is shuttered.

[ - ] DonaldJTrump 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 10:07:36 ago (+1/-0)

About the old Voat content: it's not entirely gone. You know about Search Voat, right?

[ - ] MagicMushroom 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 11:32:26 ago (+1/-0)

There was a thread here a while ago about SearchVoat closing. The maintainer was pulling the plug, I can not remember why. It is another loss to our community and again proves the point that we should move from using centralized systems to a distributed platform.

How many times do people have to keep seeing infrastructure like zlibrary, voat, search voat, etc. dismantled and eradicated because it is centralized? When will people say they have had enough and start supporting distributed systems?

All of that work lost again and again and again.

If you have had enough, try some distributed platforms and start encouraging others to do the same. Relying on centralized websites is unwise and irresponsible.

[ - ] DonaldJTrump 0 points 1.5 yearsNov 5, 2022 15:16:01 ago (+0/-0)

SearchVoat IS still up but I agree about the decentralization thing. I'm the admin of fuckoffwerefull and we've specifically delayed launching a site until we figure out a way to do so using decentralized tech. Do you think images would work well on IPFS?
