So I was at the gas station buying some things, and the bill was $6.47.

scrounging through the change in my pocket, I gave $21.52 to the nog cashier (who was nice and polite and not at all gangsta ghetto).

he looked at me really weird, and couldn't understand why I would give him such an "odd" amount.

even when he gave me the $15.05 in change, he still didn't understand.

I just left, without bothering to explain.

Worse is when they push it back to you and only take what they think they need. You have to double down and ask them to upgrade the change.

The other day I stopped for a bite to eat in the morning. My total was $5.12 and I handed the cashier a $20. She says "your change is $14.88..." and I burst out "HELL YEA, TODAYS GONNA BE A GREAT DAY!"

I don't think she understood why.

He wanted to lessen the amount of change he had. If you don't have exact change and just give bills, you end up with more change in your pocket. But if he gives them change slightly over, he gets bills and a coin or two back and ends up with less change in the end. My boomer father does it. It's a boomer thing. Really annoying shit.
