It's kind of funny how the TV show Friends is thought of today is being old-fashioned but when it came out it was actually the first show that was about depressed never married single people spreading the message that this was the future. If you listen to the theme song the words are very telling. Basically the words of the theme song say everything sucks. The show became extremely popular because the people were attractive and it was a lot of funny situations but the overriding theme of it was everybody's banding together and cheap apartments without getting married because there is no path to Independence and getting married and having families. And that was really the first show that was this negative while also being popular. They were other shows like my so-called life and things which were just down or shows with ugly people that nobody really cared about that didn't catch on but friends sold this message with beautiful people and funny situations so it was much more effective at selling this negative message. Then of course they did start to introduce things like homosexuality and these other things in a very subtle way which normalized it all.

Previously the big hit cultural popular show was Ally mcbeal. Ally mcbeal was really the last show where people were successful in the women were openly chasing men to get married. Ally McBeal was always trying to find a guy to get married too and all the girls in the office were always oogling all the guys and wanting to get married to them now of course they did take on these legal cases where they defended some homo who felt depressed and they tried to sell a message in the court case like a lot of them did but the overall culture of the office and the interactions between the people was really the last show where the women were openly chasing the guys and expecting a normal sexual relationship leading to a successful marriage. It's one of the reasons that show is actually still fun to watch all of the court cases that they cover are annoying but it's not uncommon at all for all the women in the show to see a good looking guy and have their mouths drop. Today in a show you're much more likely to have some woman walk into the room and instead of the guys Jaws dropping it'll be the other women in the room talking about how hot she is.

This was a great post.

I have asserted for the last 20+ years that Sex and the City was the incipient phase of the downfall of American women. Terrible show for many reasons.

Oh yeah sex in the city was really one of the key ones that made women think their life would be better if they were just out there riding the cock carousel.

But to really find the original show that brought about the destruction of the American way of life in the American family you have to go back to All in the family which was a show produced by a Jew who openly stated he hated Christians and wanted to bring down their world. So he set up Archie Bunker as the white man who is ahead of the family as the laughing stock of the show to break down the white man as a sense of authority or a center of authority in any family. It was completely contrived thing but it was very successful and destroying the natural authority of the husband is the head of the household and as the worthy leader of the household. They routinely put stupid words in his mouth and when they weren't putting stupid words in his mouth but were putting common sense words in his mouth they found a way to ridicule them which was really the most damaging thing of all

Yeah. I have made posts before on Poal (and maybe here) about Norman Lear. All in the Family was the big one, but you also had The Jeffersons, Maude (terrible) and othersz

While reading that I thought of murphy brown, although I'm not sure it fits, I used to like watching it.

"we will either save ourselves or we will be there"

Same for us if it's not too late.
