I like weed in theory (in moderation,etc) and am apathetic about it being legal, but I think you make valid points. Prohibition has its own problems but weed certainly has the potential to become a habit that drags you down and it can absolutely make seeking other highs seem attractive.
If I were to think about the benefits vs the negatives of any weed use over the course of my life bottom line is there are more negatives.
Luckily once I figured that out I stopped using it aside from very rare occurrences. Never at all would probably be better.
