Ice ages are a regular occurrence in the earth's cycle. The earth has experienced several in the last million years, and we're just now coming out of the last one. This isn't a cataclysm, it's normal. This is charted in graphs by Milankovitch.
The earth is doing what it's supposed to do according to the physical laws that govern the solar system.
A mere 20,000 years ago, the earth's polar ice caps extended much farther that they do now, and the sea level was much lower. There were also men on the earth who in every aspect were similar to modern man. About 15,000 years ago, the earth started warming, and it does after every ice age.
