I did this back in 2017.

Had the AC in my house completely shut off and every window in the entire house open, on both stories.

The miners running 24/7 kept the house at a toasty 76 degrees, and I mainly stayed in the main bedroom. I had two other roommates at the time, both of them had to keep their doors and windows open for circulation. Never heard any complaints, aside from some minor issues regarding temporary stops to the mining software or hardware.

I was very lucky though. Back then, I had no idea how much temperature the wires in my house could handle and how much electricity draw I could pull before it became hazardous. I started out with a couple of homemade rigs, and that turned into a full mining farm with ASIC block miners. By the time I was near maximum safe draw for my household wires, I had already partnered with another mining group and moved all of the ASICs to a warehouse.

If it weren't for that, I could have potentially burned down my own house. A couple of years later, I had a friend come over for some house maintenance, and he showed me how some of the mining that I had done had left scorch marks on some attic wires. It was a pain in the ass changing out all the wires, but I had it done and I monitor the electricity use every day to make sure there's no other damage, which I'm sure there is in some places where I haven't noticed.

If you really think that household heating using miners is a good idea, I hope you know the exact thickness and gauge of your house wires and how much draw they can handle, otherwise you're just lining up a series of tragic events.

I've mined bitcoin during the winter instead of running my heater when mining bitcoin still did something on gaming hardware.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to run halogen heat lamps?

Clearly we need to build solar in the south with robust transmission lines to the north. Northerners will mine BTC because of their +heating cost advantage. Southerners will make electricity for their sun advantage. I know you guys hate on solar but the truth is a panel in the south averages 4 hours of equivalent direct sun even in the worst months. Do the calculations on that and you'll see it's not at all unreasonable.

Use this calculator to compute array output based on zip code, tilt, and other factors.

Some figuring will get you an installed and financed cost of about $0.10/kWh. The only reason I don't pull the trigger right now is that additional home owners insurance will push the cost slightly above $0.12, and that's so close to my current bill that it isn't worth locking myself into something. It's a very marginal difference though for sure. It's a totally reasonable replacement for other electrical sources in many (but certainly not all) places. It's orders of magnitude more efficient than biofuel considering that photosynthesis is only 0.5% to 5% efficient depending on species. And that doesn't even consider all the other costs associated with biofuels.

A robust electrical grid with nuclear, coal, hydro, and solar inputs should be standard in any first world nation. Off-grid preppers aren't morons but they're not nation builders either. Rather, they're prepping for a failed state. That's something to prepare for, not to actually implement.

Welcome to my BTC electrical grid utopia. Everyone is cruising around in hoverboards and drones are walking dogs.

This is why Russia had to be taken out they were going to unleash the biggest crypto farm this winter and keep all their people warm

Only if you have cheap electricity. Not going to work for Texans.

If your house is heated by electricity it can just as easily be heated by the mining equipment plugged into your electrical outlet which will produce heat. Of course if your house is heated by some other source like oil or gas then it doesn't apply. However running your Bitcoin mining equipment inside your home will still provide additional heat which will offset your use of gas and oil and depending on the comparative cost of gas and oil and electricity it can make a significant difference in your heating bill.

Depends on the market. If bitcoin isn't worth shit and electricity is expensive, you have to look hard at efficiency and do some calculations. You're not offsetting any expense until you sell the shitcoin, which you then need to pay tax on.

Yes. It's too bad no one's invented a negative entropy cryptocurrency that can be heated by sucking energy out of the air and therefore acting as air conditioning while the coin is mined.
