This is true. Neglected and abused children show a stark decrease in interest in the world around them. They tend to observe adults rather than nature for behavioral cues and safety assurance. As a result their learning is stunted. A secure child rather takes an interest in exploration. They focus on fulfilling their own desires and will attempt to take control of situations.
