The free market was facing huge challenges because of exponential population growth and concomitant demand increases for resources. The struggle is trying to maintain an economy that offers the most freedom while preventing cartels from forming. The cartels' real power doesn't lie so much in their economic potential but in their potential to exploit political policy. Look at the way that governments detest oil. They hate the power that oil cartels have over them so much that they faked an entire body of science around climate change just to try and pretend like they don't need it. The vast wealth that oil companies garner from their operations does inspire envy but at least the relative separation from governmental entities in the West prevents the consolidation of too much control over ordinary people's lives. I think the West looks at Russia and the Middle East and our lackluster leaders salivate with envy over how much control Putin and Xi have. Trudeau is already on record demonstrating his boyish covetousness of Xi's position. They hate economic freedom because that means they have less power. They hate the free market because in their minds they are the perfect chosen ones and they are the supreme "enlightened" rulers that are the only ones that can save us from ourselves. I disagree with this and I think they are mistaken.
The market has not been free for a long time. This guy will just implement accelerationism. My guess is his end will be upon a pike. Either by the people or those who used him and have no other use for him.
