Just stop oil & climate protests in general

submitted by WanderingToast to whatever 2.7 yearsOct 20, 2022 03:02:59 ago (+1/-4)     (whatever)

They always try to cause disruption to normal people, and then wonder why the general population don't support them and companies and governments ignore them.

If I were a climate protester, the direct action I would take is 'aggravated criminal damage' of peoples energy meters.

It would go down like this.

Knock on the door, 2/3 people who are not particularly threatening in balaclavas with 'just stop oil' stuff are there.

They 'threaten you' to give them access to your meter. They destroy the readout parts of the meter or even the measuring part, while keeping all services connected. 'just stop oil' stickers are then super glued to the meter.

This is combined with 'just stop oil' stickers being sent around.

So even if they don't come to your house, who is to say they didn't.

Now energy companies are on the hook, and the movement gets public support

how?

act of vandalism from a criminal are not part of electrical coverages unless it's really different state by state

LoL how do you work that one out?

This is obviously a good idea as it's doable and getting downvoated.

((They)) evidently fear this

Its a utility, the state will step in and taxpayer dollars will be used to cover costs. The electrical company is not going to just eat the costs. Not to mention the rise in insurance rates and utility costs afterward. And not sure if you’re throwing accusations around, but I don’t downvoat.

Or, the utility companies have a serious and immediate cashflow problem, further compounded by their use of complex financial instruments to boost profits.

The utility companies go bust, and then without any complex legislation the government (people) can step in and buy the dead utilities for a fraction of their true value, while keeping the market open to private companies and competition (as was done in the 2008 banking crisis except that was done at inflated value and then resold at a loss)

You now have genuine competition and a market that can operate fairly without heavy regulation.

Profit from infrastructure is one of the ways ((they)) keep us down and ineffective
