Armageddon optional.

Edit: This is client to client. There is no internet/wifi/bluetooth/IRD/cell/mobile technology on the chipsets used on this device - they are not physically present.

Edit: Build it yourself here - https://github.com/bobricius/armachat

You can make the entire project from scratch if you want: https://github.com/bobricius/armachat

This is a cool idea. It could maybe work if you setup the gateway yourself. Otherwise, this is still heavily dependent on someone else having a LoRa gateway running and connected to the internet.

Does lora need internet? I thought it was just a radio?

Armachat is client to client. If you want to go super far distances you can use a repeater that simply forwards what it receives. There is no internet connection, wifi capability, Bluetooth, ird etc on armachat. I think he's working on adding gps to the client if you want it. This is a client to client or client to repeater device only.

You're correct, it is just radio. However, the lorawan networks require an internet connection, so it just depends on how you set it up and how far away the data is from the server:

- If you setup your own lora gateway, then you can skip the internet and just connect your database/server to the gateway.
- If you are depending on a gateway setup by someone else, you will either need to use the internet to connect to your data/sensor or get your data to hop from one lora gateway to the next until it reaches your lora gateway.

The best part is that no internet is required at all! No satellite connection, no sim or cell plan needed. Plus it can use repeaters to increase the already impressive range.
