I wonder what software cartel members use on their phone to not be tracked or if they just also have some influence over the people that operate the tracking infrastructure. I'm sure intelligence agencies are pretty buddy buddy with these guys in many ways.

I suppose they could have fried all of the telemetry hardware other than 2.4ghz wifi and used a secured access point. That would do it.

Yeah, that's more their MO. They probably have moles in many parts of our government able to create that fear factor. Nobody would want to turn in information that would disrupt their operation if there's a serious chance they and their family could be brutally murdered for it. That's also why intelligence organizations poach people with no family for high risk endeavors.

As I understand it, California these days is virtually an extension of Mexico, so it was bound to happen.
