I've tested out all angles- I've been mean, nice, indifferent and clingy. They just want different things constantly and if you don't read their mind and yield to those thoughts they won't even admit to than you're out.

Women like getting mad, they like being "upset". They thrive on having their "feelings hurt", largely because it makes the manipulation strategies they use against men more effective with less effort. Nothing has helped me understand this better than observing married couples, and ultimately, being married myself. It's really quite fucked up the way in which women behave. You don’t have to hit them, just getting a little aggressive in your argument and looking slightly menacing is enough to make them wet. If the woman tries to get you to hit her by getting in your face or hitting you, just getting close to her in an intimidating way is enough for her to drop her bs and start gushing on the spot.

I dont think they like being mad. They just cant manage their emotions like we do. Theyll take a few minor solvable issues and combine them into a giant narrative that fits how they are feeling. I mitigate that crap by checking up on her, seeing how her day is going. If youre doing it right you should know that they are going to be upset before they know it.
