[PSA]: Toyota FJ Cruiser Owners

Do yourself a favor and perform an annual inspection of the roof channels housing the luggage racks mounts.

Apparently, this is an extremely common issue with this model and most owners don't find out until they begin to notice moisture, discoloration, and/or mold along the outer edge of the headboard.

Instead of fully joining the roof to the frame, Toyota instead decided on a seam with sealant design, which breaks down over time, cracks, and begins to leak, causing a mold and rust issue as well as potentially ruining your side restraint airbags above the doors (read: $$$$.)

The good news is that the trim pieces are friction-type, not adhesive, meaning they're not only easy to remove, but also reusable.
Simply pop them loose, remove any debris, then inspect along the outer edge of the channel for visible cracking of the sealant.
3 dollars of silicon acrylic caulking and 20 minutes of labor later and you're good to go.
