Every time people look at these old cars and appreciate anything, from the efficiency to the design to the cost, they should consider that that's all illegal now. It's not entirely that art or engineering has gotten worse. Government has gotten bigger.

Yup, they fucked up aviation pretty good too, which is why so many pilots are flying planes built in the 60's and 70's. It's damn near impossible to get a plane through the kike labyrinth that is the FAA. The ultralight space is relatively unkiked, but there's only so much you can do with 5 gallons of gas, a 254 lb weight limit, and a shitty speed limit of 63 mph.

They pay out the ass to get through testing, then they pay out the ass for all FAA compliant components. That step alone easily raises the price about 8x.

I had a 71 bus, 77 westy, and 4 Vanagons. Currently running a 91 Vanagon, completely restored.
