this is ridiculous, 4 days... but 'good' for the climate, I guess

[ - ] HeavyBrain 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 05:13:24 ago (+0/-0)

Well its great if you can "work as a blogger" from home and don't need to go anywhere, also get everything delivered, totally good for the climate.

I call that the German nuclear power plant fallacy.

oy vey goyim, you can ride your bike while we drive our German diesel cars.

ride your bike
Silly goy, no exercise or mobility for you!

It would take longer if you use a cell phone charger. Some people are too stupid to use the right tool for the job.

I think the point was that without commercial fast chargers, the vehicles have reduced or greatly reduced practicality.

Fair enough

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 13:00:25 ago (+1/-0)

You don't need a commercial fast charger, you just need another 240V outlet at home. That's more than adequate for almost any EV on the market to charge overnight, since they won't be completely drained.

This retard buys a shitty EV that seems to keep the shittiness of the original Hummer and just swapped the powerplant. He deserves it for paying that much for a shitty vehicle.

meanwhile churches and monuments in germany aren't allowed to have their lights on at night at the moment (but synagogues and jewish monuments are)

Also not electric heaters because the grid could collapse (not that a massive blackout isn't incoming anyway)

But you go and buy your electric car that somehow won't do anything.

What is it on average in germany now 0,65ct per kWh?

My Power Wheels as a kid took 6-8 hours for that battery to charge, makes sense the adult Power Wheels would take 6-8x as long.

One problem is the categorization of level 2 etc. L2 can be 240v at ~10A or at 50A. I'm no electrical engineer, but I think the 50A might be faster.

[ - ] StarylDrawberry 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 16:07:57 ago (+0/-0)

It would be faster. But the more amps the harder is on the battery. It would be like driving your car at 7k rpm for an hour.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 09:00:27 ago (+1/-0)

I rarely fill up my car with gas more than once a week so to fully charge in 4 days is fine. After all you can use it partially charged and just leave it over night.

The real question is can it charge each night more than you drive each day. That is all that matters.

[ - ] Spaceman84 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 09:44:20 ago (+1/-0)

This is using the slowest method to charge the car. The manufacturer expects you to use the upgraded charger that can do it in a few hours.

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 3 points 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 09:08:59 ago (+3/-0)

It has pros and cons. It's easier to generate your own electricity than it is to produce gasoline...

[ - ] knightwarrior41 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 09:41:34 ago (+1/-0)

These vehicles are being promoted so that your movement might be restricted.how far it can go in one charge, I wonder

[ - ] RedBarchetta 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 11:19:49 ago (+1/-0)

My i4 BMW is capable of 300-350 flat highway miles stretching it. 250 easily. My TDI does 600 highway miles. I am honestly more concerned not finding Diesel tomorrow vs. being able to charge the car.

[ - ] CPU 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 4, 2022 01:06:37 ago (+0/-0)

If we have difficulties in finding gas/diesel, we will also likely have difficulties in finding charging. There will be smart chargers everywhere, they will all have kill switches. They will also have kill switches for substations.

These people are all about control, they will think of every scenario.

[ - ] RedBarchetta 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 11:17:27 ago (+0/-0)

Can confirm. I have an Electric Car. Without an inverter, they are fucking useless. With the inverter full charge 3 hours. Charge to 80% 20 minutes. That last bit is a motherfucker.

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 12:58:34 ago (+1/-0)

I mean what did he expect? The thing has a 200kWh battery.

A wall socket is 120V @ 15A, or 1.8kW. 200kWh / 1.8 kW = 111 hours & change. That's why normal wall sockets (aka Level 1 charging) are for emergency use, not regular use.

Anyone buying an electric vehicle will more than likely be installing a "Level 2" charger. Basically another 240V outlet on a 30A circuit, similar to your dryer. 240V @ 30A = 7.2kW. 200kWh / 7.2 kW = roughly 27hrs & 45 minutes, give or take. Much more reasonable

Almost any EV can also use "Level 3" aka "Fast Charging." These are DC chargers ranging from 200kW up to 800kW in some newer standards. But these are also not meant for every day use. Using them all the time will degrade the battery faster, so they're meant for things like long-distance trips where a few fast charges won't cause too much additional wear.

EVs are basically meant to use L2 charging at home as the primary means of getting power. You drive around town, and you plug in every other day or so (or every day if you have a horrible commute) just like you would with your phone. If you're going on a trip, you can use the fast chargers, and if you're stuck with no other option, you just plug into any random outlet.

EVs have their problems, but some retard using the wrong equipment isn't anything special.

If we wanna talk about problems, let's talk about how the Hummer EV has a 200kWh battery, but the range is only about 300 miles. GM basically swapped out shitty gas mileage with shitty electric mileage. A less retarded car with a 200kWh battery could probably get close to 900 miles on a charge.

[ - ] Psychicrussiaspy 2 points 2.6 yearsOct 3, 2022 15:19:44 ago (+2/-0)

EV's are nothing more than a tool for govt to restrict you freedom of movement. That is all.
