Is it normal to still not have power 3 days after a hurricane barely even touched us?

Would imagine crews need to verify the integrity of the infrastructure before making the lines live. Electrifying standing water or something catching fire is not ideal.

Or, lazy niggers.

[ - ] totes_magotes 2 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 09:25:27 ago (+4/-2)

That's literally a nothing job. All they have to do is basically touch a measuring tool to the line and it will energize it enough to read electrical flow and it will tell them if there's a break, how far, which direction. It can do this by reading the amount coming back (filling the pipe) and how long it takes to come back (distance). It's not rocket science yet it is utterly astounding how people don't know this. They act like it's still some kind of 1960s bullshit.

[ - ] MasklessTheGreat 4 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 09:52:59 ago (+5/-1)

You got a downvote. Lol The device you are referring to is called a time domain reflectometer. It works by sending an electrical pulse and timing the echo and measuring it’s intensity. It can tell you where the break is and even where a switch or connection in the middle of a line. It’s like a radar but for electrical wires.

@totes_magotes

For what its worth, the lazy niggers around Detroit take almost four days to restore all power if there's a storm with wind over 50mph.

The better question may be: is there enough intelligent workers to utilize the tools to efficiently fix the lines?

[ - ] totes_magotes 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 14:17:05 ago (+0/-0)

Are you really going to ask about their intelligence? Working with live wires that will kill them instantly? Do you really think they're putting dumbass fools on that kind of a job where a chimpout will lead to instant death? Because all it takes is one fuck up and they're gone.

[ - ] GlowNiggerDick 7 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 08:52:07 ago (+7/-0)

It's completely normal. In 2004 we lost power for 10 days. Just go drive around there are linemen busting their ass all over the place. We got power back last night. Good luck today bro it's gonna be a hot one.

[ - ] totes_magotes 5 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 09:23:23 ago (+6/-1)

IF your power is out, power is out for other people. If it's because of a storm, it's out for a lot of people.

Grow the fuck up and deal with it.

Just because 99% of your ancestors survived without electricity and the only reason you exist is because of them and their abilities to survive, doesn't mean you shouldn't immediately give up and die, ending a bloodline that goes back over 100,000 years because it's dark and scary at night without lights.

The only reason our ancestors survived the last 100,000 years to produce us, was because they killed and defeated those that tried to do them harm.

Sounds like something we're all going to have to get used to, hurricane or not.

There was a guy on voat forever ago that when that census thing was going around said " mark yourself as minority." To get as many people in your area to do so because minority areas would get first priority on anything.

Did you mark the census white?

They usually prioritize certain areas based on pop density and political clout. I didnt see workers in my town for 9 days after sandy hit. We were a low priority because we are white and dont loot. You could just be low on the list.

Last 'damage outage' here in California was 33 years ago this month, aside from the usual car hitting power pole. Was off for about a week after the big '89 earthquake. A few years ago was off a few hours for 'wind', but otherwise pretty reliable.

[ - ] PostWallHelena 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 19:57:27 ago (+0/-0)

Ooo good point. Usually they get workers in from other states. But they might have jewed florida.

[ - ] Psychicrussiaspy 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 22:07:46 ago (+0/-0)

Monday night on 75 north I counted 214 power co trucks coming south . There were more I just stopped counting.

Government has purposely built in so much regulation and policy etc into public services it's no wonder shit gets done at all, let alone the same week.

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 2, 2022 13:38:56 ago (+0/-0)

Tree cutting is so restricted here that some parts of California go without power when it's windy.

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 2, 2022 13:42:31 ago (+0/-0)

You should kill yourself for willingly living in califailia

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 2, 2022 14:02:40 ago (+0/-0)

Don't be so jealous that you can't afford it. Get an air conditioner and pretend you live here. Maybe buy some fresh sea air in a can? Or just take drugs to numb your pain.

@diggernicks lives in a state that opposes abortion for niggers. Ask him why he sends his tax dollars to nigger lovers.

Try going 9 days from an ice storm. 3 days yeah, probably gonna be a few more. Big hurricanes down a lot of wires etc, so there's a ton of work to do to get everyone back up and running.

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim 1 point 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 09:04:27 ago (+1/-0)

Maybe. I don't think anyone here could honestly know. I have no way to view the damage, and prioritize repairs in an efficient manner. Just because your repair is simple doesn't mean it tops the list of jobs to do. No one here can actually know.

[ - ] Redhairin 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 23:18:42 ago (+0/-0)

You need to stop relying on the grid. Use this to incentivize you to prepare for the future....whether that be solar panels on the roof, electric generator, or whatever. This scenario will repeat again and again. It's circumvention time.

Power company pinching pennies and meeting qoutas is certainly a factor but also they prioritize repairs which effect more customers so the cities which have infrastructure damage are going to jump you in line.

It was 10 days before I got power back after sandy. In november. And it snowed. I was heating the house with the gas burners on my stove. You filthy ingrate. Nah jk. Just hang in there. Hardship is purifying. You be able to flex on your deprivation years from now like I am. Think of how glad you’ll be then that the power didnt come back on now! Silver linings.

I read that power generation stations were flooded and need to be rebuilt

[ - ] zr855 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 13:02:35 ago (+0/-0)

Went without power for 2 weeks once in an area barely affected by the hurricane. You're reading too much into it.

Could be that your area lost some equipment that is expensive and not enough people down to justify the manpower and cost yet while everyone else is down. Happens sometimes and it SUCKS. Get a generator.

Got the one below a while back and love it. I just use the small propane tanks because dealing with gas SUCKS over time. Had a carb and the fuel line gunk up and die on me on the last one because the gas slow dripped over time even though it was shut off. You don't have to worry about that with propane and it stores forever.

Natural disasters are overtime bonanzas where they pull crew from anywhere of any kind. Sort of like government work, they never want it to end. 1 guy in a basket, 3 on the ground watching.

This will buy each lineman a new truck for the year. You wouldn't want to deny a guy a new truck would you?

[ - ] usedoilanalysis 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 12:25:30 ago (+0/-0)

Yes. It's also normal to not find gasoline because everyone is lining up around the block to power their generator they're going to return in a week.

[ - ] Barfcock19 0 points 2.6 yearsOct 1, 2022 10:00:09 ago (+0/-0)

2 days to 2 weeks is the average electricity restoration time-frame from my experience.

Hang in there, Florida bro.

Strategic power infrastructure in Florida wasn't just damaged - it was wiped off the map.

I don't know if you noticed, but we've been experiencing an elimination of the components that make up large power infrastructure for years. A generic 3p large industrial transformer used to be obtained in a few days, or even weeks - now 55-72 week leads to get in line.

Florida power infrastructure isn't just fucked, it will take years to rebuild it. Let that one sink in for you.

Enjoy the apocalypse.
