Your municipality probably cut it to mitigate damage.

At least the weather today is nice. Best weather all year long. A shame tomorrow will be miserable again.

What I've never understood is why they build powerlines above ground in places that have hurricanes and tornados. I live in an area that has never had either, and plenty of our power lines are underground. You'd think stuff like this would be more of a priority.

I think new areas have them underground but along the gulf coast the water table is like 3 feet underground. That's why there are almost no basements in gulf states.

Low voltage distribution in neighborhoods is easy underground. But a high voltage and current conductor needs more than plastic and grease. It can become complex, with oil circulating to insulate, protect, and cool. To work on the conductor you may need to turn off the oil, which means turning off the current. This could take an extended period of time. If you had a true grid there would be ways to route around inop sections, but even if we had a grid as redundant as our transportation roadways we'd still see reduced service during closures just like we do with traffic. Transmission lines belong above ground. Neighborhood distributions definitely should be put underground. Imho

I went through a CAT 4 typhoon last week, lost power for two days and not once did I make an artistic post about the weather. It's just a storm. It will be fine.

Communion with hurricanes is part of being a Florida man.
