Beyond meat is like a fleshlight compared to a real pussy. No matter how many engineers and scientists you throw at it, it will never be anywhere close to the same. That's because man created the fleshlight and God created the pussy and he is the all time greatest craftsman.
The "veggie patty" or "vegetarian meat" is generally the shittiest thing anyone could eat and that's not at all because of "teh environment" or "be a man" or "soy" or whatever shit you want to dream up.
It serves a purpose in that it provides a way to eat something kind of like a burger, what with burgers and fries being a kind of "American staple" and all. Giving up meat means you give up a fucking hell of a lot of menu options and restaurants. Going out with friends or coworkers or just grabbing pretty much anything you can find just to shut your stomach up because your day has gone to shit and you're running ragged becomes its own special hell. It's not "just because they can't give up the idea of a burger."
But it's literally the equivalent of the worst fast food burger you can find in existence in terms of dietary choices.
All the same, compared to what was available at McDonald's previously (nothing) or the "garden veggie patty" at Burger King, it was an amazing choice to throw at a menu. As far as "vegetarian meats" go, Impossible and Beyond really aren't that bad at all especially when you look at what they're made with and compare them to the shitty Boca Burgers and that ground up trash with the "Morningstar Farms" label plastered on it. Comparing Impossible and Beyond, Impossible is better in texture and taste though still not 100% agreeable.
The problem is that someone decided to hype up McDonald's so that they thought it would be a money-maker.
Let's be clear: Vegetarians aren't as common as we're told to believe and when you target a niche demographic, you're going to have market failures unless you just plan it as a side menu item (like Burger King did all along). Add to this that Burger King uses an honest-to-God broiler that burns off any meat shit left on the rack vs. "I gotta clean the grill a bit, have a special place for the "meat" patty, have a special timer, has to be cooked to order, can only hold it in the freezer about as long as meat, yadda yadda," it wasn't a good fit for what McDonald's wanted to do.
Now all of that said, I have tried one of McDonald's Beyond burgers and it's not really that horrible but it's still a veggie burger. Hell, Burger King's Impossible was better and even its garden veggie patty was light years better and it was still shit.
This went exactly the way everyone knew it would despite what everyone really hoped for. This really should have come as no surprise at all.
You want to know the sad, sad truth? Vegetarians don't want an actual plant-based burger that passes as meat. Green Giant, back in the late 90s, had a veggie patty that 100% tasted like beef, greased up like beef, yet had no meat. It wasn't horribly expensive and came in a 4 pack-box in the freezer section. You could honestly give it to any meat-eater and they wouldn't notice any difference. I tried it once and was pretty impressed. Couldn't find it the next month. Vegetarians don't want burgers that pass for meat. If they did, we wouldn't still be trying to make them.
old school veggie burgers (before vegetarianism became the cool thing) werent bad.
what is called a veggieburger now is most definitely not the same as what used to be called a veggie burger
"as far as vegetarian meats go"
there is no such thing as vegetarian meat, that is a gaslight tactic. eventually actual real meat meat will disappear as will the 'plant based' label and suddenly we are eating 0% beef that can still be legally called shit like 'beef' or 'meat' when it is nothing of the sort. We have a chain store called 'Lord Of The Fries' here. The only place they inform you that theyre 100% vegan is on the fucking wallpaper*
So what? Get the fuck over it. There's no such butter made from peanuts, is there? No. But you're not complaining about that. Get the fuck over yourself and do something actually useful with your brain cells for once.
Right, the point isn't to make good food for vegans/vegetarians, it's to make the rest of us into vegans/vegetarians by getting us used to a passable mest substitute.
ive only seen on of them mcplant things sold once, and the indian that bought it went back up to the counter about 5 minutes later and started complaining about how they gave her beef.
no, apparently 'mcplant' is beef flavoured, so actual cultural/religious vegetarians (as opposed to the 'vegan because its cool to say but otherwise hasnt got a clue) cant fucking eat them anyway.
