Am I blind, or did an article about a record long shot fail to even specify the caliber used?

[ - ] ruck_feddit 3 points 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 10:44:09 ago (+3/-0)

Obviously 22LR, don't you know anything about guns?

[ - ] JustALover 2 points 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 15:40:54 ago (+2/-0)

Not at that distance, you moron. Anything over 3 miles and you have to load the 22LR to +P levels.

Woosh.

[ - ] ruck_feddit 0 points 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 22:56:34 ago (+0/-0)

Anyone could hit that target with 22 +P. I'm not even impressed anymore!

Do you know what the definition of "assume" is son?

[ - ] 2Drunk 2 points 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 15:13:18 ago (+2/-0)

Did you just "assume" I knew how to read? Also don't call me son, pal.

Custom build weapon and ammo.

Also, they took 68 shots in a row, missed every time. Then got a hit with the 69th shot, but they thought it might have been a ricochet.

"local media outlet KSLTV explains" Love that kind of News Channel. But near 70 tries, Hey I think the element of surprise and distance has been given up.

I mean at some point statistics come into play.

[ - ] Had 0 points 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 11:13:45 ago (+0/-0)

My first thought as well. They can do all the calculations to get it close, but it's a crap shoot at that distance. Wind variations in flight, slight bullet deformations, humidity, all sorts of shit comes into play. Put enough near, and eventually you'll get lucky. It's almost impossible to hit 2 in a row.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 1 point 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 12:45:04 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah actually Ford's account now that you mentioned it they should have to do two in a row

The entire article makes no sense...notwithstanding the multitude of discrepancies, the one that I have trouble digesting is the number of rnds fired before "bullseye"...the barrel of a weapon is most accurate when clean and at ambiant température. When shooting with my .50 I swab the barrel every 3 rnds, after 3 swabs I allow 15 - 20 minutes for cool down, (fire 10rnds and then touch the barrel, extremely hot). ..the first 3 rnds are most accurate.
Too many things to pick apart with this article so to cut it short I'm going to leave it right where it is and call BULLSHIT...and nowhere is the caliber mentioned...also, anyone who is a well seasoned shooter knows that the further the distance of travel the more wobble to the bullet meaning that à bullet hole at 1,500 meters is going to be more deformed than a hole created by a bullet at 500yrds...the hole in the picture looked perfectly formed, nothing outside of uniform concentricity meaning no bullet wobble.

No idea how to copy video from telegram, but here's a tank landing some shots on infantry at over 4 KM. Distance requires them to lob the shell like artillery.

[ - ] RedBarchetta 0 points 2.1 yearsSep 19, 2022 21:41:23 ago (+0/-0)

Have you seen them when the bullet drifts left to right from wind? Crazy shit. Like putting on mars. Gotta respect the talent.
