Had a real bad accidental discharge happen tonight.

submitted by MuricaPersonified to whatever 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 00:49:20 ago (+32/-3)     (whatever)

So I'm at my business partner's house. He's a southern guy who shares the property with family. I'm playing with my double-date 1916-1920 Erfurt/Mauser refurbished Weimar Luger, which is loaded with Hornady XTPs. I point it aside from anything important, half toggle-lock with booger hook off the bang switch, and karate chop the action shut.... BANG!!!. Right through the couch's arm rest and up ~70º past my buddy's head. It shattered the window but the bulk of the round fell behind the couch.

His father is oldschool ex-airforce, ex-ATF, ex-SWAT, and ex-firefighter. Cool as a cucumber, came running out and asked what happened. He examined the evidence, realized I was telling the truth, and pulled out three ancient rifles which all have horrible problems that result in bad slamfires or similar. He further examined my pistol, found that is drops firing pin with force, told me to get it fixe, and be careful with antique guns, then went back to bed.

Of course I'll pay for the damage. I offered that immediately. I'm fucking embarrassed even though they all say not to be and that my buddy's dad has seen worse... This is the first time anything like this has happened, but these people have seen shit and were cool as cucumbers.

Goddamned I'm embarrased. I try very hard to be a paragon of gun safety, have brought many into the fold, and shit like this still fucking happens...

I dunno what to say. They told me not to dwell on it and gave me a bottle of good whiskey. Drunk as fuck. Still horribly embarrassed.

It can happen to anyone.

I'm playing with my....

found the mistake.

one does not play with firearms (loaded and indoors, nice Einstein)

I'd tell you about the discharge I saw that helped me form that strategy, but talking about my dead teenage friends makes me sad so I wont.

You'd miss him right now. You should feel however bad you need to feel about it to make sure it doesnt happen again.
Even if that means you seem like a jerk and get accused of some skittishness. If you need help remembering just thinkabouBANG yea.. that

when my buddies dad ran out he was already dying, I remember thinking how shitty a night that must have been for him. I hope multidimensions isnt true, cuz if it is in that one dimension you are still sitting there crying on the porch

[ - ] AryanPrime 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 13:39:52 ago (+1/-0)

that's not actually how the multi dimensional theory works...just an fyi so you don't think that someone is sitting there crying perpetually...

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 17:57:15 ago (+0/-0)

Time exists perpetually, we just move through it. Someone is still sitting there crying at that point in time.

Stop treating guns like toys.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:06:02 ago (+4/-2)

Patronizing, but correct.

[ - ] Master_Foo 5 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:13:49 ago (+5/-0)

You deserve to be patronized.
This ND would have never happened if you weren't treating a dangerous weapon like a kid playing cowboy with a cork gun.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:20:22 ago (+1/-1)

It was an AD, not an ND. I knew it was loaded, and it was during a basic safety check (hence the half toggle) when it fired. It is what it is. I've handled guns for over thirty years without incident and this was pure accident.

[ - ] Master_Foo 9 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:36:25 ago (+9/-0)

You karate chop your gun during a basic safety check? I'm pretty sure that's not in the user manual.

There's no such thing as an AD. They are all NDs. Stop acting like a Nigger. You are always responsible for your weapon and all unintentional discharges are negligent.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:46:49 ago (+1/-1)*

You've never touched a Luger. Case in point.

It was pointed well off in a safe direction, knew it was loaded, acted like it was loaded, checked it with half-toggle, and it went off when put into battery. Round deflected in a dangerous direction. I don't need to defend my actions because that is standard procedure and it went wrong, hence AD; not ND. Finger was NOT on trigger. Go ahead and be an ass about it, though, nogunner.

[ - ] Master_Foo 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:50:53 ago (+2/-0)

You don't need to touch a weapon to know when someone is acting an idiot.
Where in the user's manual does it say to karate chop the action shut while aiming at a couch's arm 70° from your friend's head?

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:54:37 ago (+0/-0)

It was a figure of speach, shithead. I slapped it with the back of my hand.

I didn't say I had it aimed 70º from his head. Round went through and arm rest and was deflected at that angle.

[ - ] Master_Foo 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 02:04:35 ago (+1/-0)

Right through the couch's arm rest and up ~70º past my buddy's head.

Somebody please put a knee on this dindu's neck.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 02:08:17 ago (+0/-0)

Thanks for reiterating that you can't read; they say the same thing.

If you want pictures, I'll show them tomorrow.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 06:55:36 ago (+2/-1)

Pointed well off in a safe direction? You said it missed your gay lover's shoulder by two inches.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 11:14:56 ago (+1/-0)

Man, I never had a problem with you before and did not have to make this post at all. I didn't want to; it's just shit sometimes happens and I feel bad enough about it. People should admit and share their mistakes if it can benefit even one other. You're being a huge faggot about this and have a difficult time reading like a couple others in the thread. It was pointed well away. The round was fired somewhat downward and deflected inside the armrest upward and right at a pretty extreme angle.

I considered taking pictures but if everyone's going to just use this thread to take out their personal frustrations on me, then I really don't see a point.

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 18:12:04 ago (+0/-0)

There's a segment of gun owners who obsess over 'gun safety' to the point of robotic autism. Some of them are commenting on this post.

I suspect they're the same people who go to gun ranges, and think they're conservative but support the jews and people like trump.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 19:08:04 ago (+0/-0)

Post stuff online, expect comments that may be less than complimentary.

PS: my 'gay lover' comment was inspired by a based gentleman who shall remain nameless.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 19:28:15 ago (+0/-0)

Fair enough, Mr. Expander.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 8 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 02:56:33 ago (+8/-0)

Think that's bad? I've got two friends that have had NEGLIGENT discharges. Both with .40 Glocks, in the same house as me. Fucking retards. We dug a round out of the carpet at the house we rented. The other one went through the roof and an ac duct. Fuck knows where the round landed. Neither of them had any business having a gun out, they were fucking with it. As stupid as they are, they're still fun as fuck to hang out with.

Me too, man. The trajectory of the deflected round was two inches left and up off my friend/partner's shoulder.

[ - ] AdolfHitler 7 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 02:11:16 ago (+7/-0)

Why was it loaded, why wasn't it pointed at the grass or a snail catcher during checks?

[ - ] MaryXmas 4 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 09:02:48 ago (+4/-0)

Personally, -aside from a carry gun, bullets don't go in the chamber of a gun unless it is at the range. You should have so many hours with a carry gun that it is boring to play with.
Good reminder to be careful.

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 18:24:40 ago (+0/-0)

I don't believe in ranges, but it's generally a good idea to not have a round in the chamber unless it's needed. When I took my AR-15 to school as a kid, for an English class "presentation", I left the chamber empty because it just wasn't needed. Also, there were hardly any blacks.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 02:28:42 ago (+3/-1)

I usually carry low-cap mil-surps for interstate travel reasons. This Luger was a relatively recent purchase. I'd put it through its paces on the range with no hiccups, but never considered drop safety or possibly weak springs in the action. It's food for thought.

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper 6 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:13:41 ago (+6/-0)

Shit happens, nobody's immune when it comes to firearms, the first rule of firearms is "ALWAYS LOADED", second rule "CONTROL THE MUZZLE", third rule "CLEAR CHAMBER", four "RACK THE ACTION MULTIPLE TIMES " NUMBER FIVE "ALWAYS LOADED"...experience ain't cheap buttercup, suck it up and carry on, you were still skilled enough to ensure that the muzzie was under control.
GOOD WORK

And NOT In the fucking living room. Really happy no one got hurt.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 4 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 08:53:32 ago (+4/-0)

So you are playing with a loaded gun in a house?

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 18:26:48 ago (+0/-0)

Aside from wintertime, being in a house has little effect on a gun.

[ - ] Thatguy 4 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:11:23 ago (+5/-1)

You fucked around with a firearm (loaded by the way) and you were not on a firing range. You should go fuck yourself! There is no excuse for what you did. Play with funny bang bang fire stick guy.

[ - ] HeyJames 4 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 00:56:02 ago (+5/-1)

This is the day you found out modern polymer pistols with internal safeties ate superior to things that look nice

ex-ATF

Too bad it didn't kill him

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 4 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:02:43 ago (+4/-0)*

I have quite a few them. There's a reason I usually carry mil-surp, 10- cap pistols, though: I regularly travel through many horrible states. The Hornady XTP in this case skirts NJ's hollowpoint law.

Nice edit. The guy hates the modern ATF as much as anyone; don't be an ass.

[ - ] LostProperty 5 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 04:37:34 ago (+7/-2)

Hey faggot, you were the one who came in here talking abput hanging out with glowniggers and almost killing your gay lover. Don't fucking act like you get to tell anyone anything here.

You are lucky this didn't kill your friend, but unlucky the glownigger lived. The glownigger was in the atf, therefore was illegaly violating the rights of innocent gun owners at one point. For this he deserves death. For you being around him akd defending him you deserve all the faggots in the world pumping cum and fuxk yous right up your boot lickinf dick sucking ass.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge. This is a lot of negligence and bad assumptions.

You always assume the gun will fire on its own. You always assume the gun will fire until it is disassembled to the point where the mechanical components just are there any more.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 3 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 06:52:58 ago (+3/-0)

Only niggers play with loaded guns in the house

[ - ] Thought_Criminal 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 09:38:21 ago (+2/-0)

NEGLIGENT discharge is the term, nigger.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 08:55:45 ago (+2/-0)

Please explain what you mean by "it drops the firing pin with force" and "karate chop the action shut".

I mean wouldn't you expect a Lugar to have force against the pin if you slam the angled action of a Lugar into the straight line position?

[ - ] boekanier 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:17:36 ago (+2/-0)*

an embarrassing situation, indeed. But don't say 'it can happen to anyone'.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 01:39:34 ago (+2/-1)

I said that because it can indeed happen. I said "playing with" in the OP, which I clarified in another response that it was a basic safety check. If you've ever touched a Luger, you'd know that you can half-toggle them to check rounds and then slap back into battery. Antique guns can have these quirks, and I saw several other examples tonight. It really can happen to anyone. I posted this against my shame to inform, not to get grilled, but obviously that's going to happen with a post like this.

[ - ] AryanPrime 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 13:38:35 ago (+1/-0)

this is why the words "Constant vigilance" are applicable in so many aspects of life

Yes it happens, had you acted like a nigger and claimed you were entirely not at fault, it would not have gone "so smoothe"

Because you were embarrased "the proper emotional response when accidentally discharing a firearm inside" they were able to discern it as a AD and not some low IQ fool fucking around and then trying to claim "AD" was the cause of the firing.

If you want to help your "embarrased" feeling, get them a self deprecating "memorial" of the event...some little trinket or art work that either depicts the situation in a similiar fashion or something you made that does so

It will make for a good laugh for them and a story, when your "embarrasing moments" can become happy funny stories others get to tell, it helps psychologically to reduce the "embarrasment" felt by the person because the people will tell the story yet still be around you, which tells your subconscious that they are still your friends despite the fact you did a not smart thing (on purpose or accidental everyone feels like a moron sometimes)

[ - ] MuricaPersonified [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 19, 2022 13:55:59 ago (+0/-0)

Thank you. You're absolutely right and my conclusions are similar. I've been around guns my whole life and totally fucked up. It was complacency and complacency kills.

Not so sure about commemorating it. Though. It'll never be forgotten and; it was a hard knock wake up call and lesson.

I got no advice. Congrats on surviving it and not killing anyone else. Most of all, thanks for sharing it with us, I'm happy to learn from your experience and not have to go through that. I don't own any Lugars, but who knows.

Best to you and yours...

No need to unholster your weapon while watching TV. When I was 12 I was playing with a buck knife while I was watching TV and not paying attention at all and managed to slice the entire palm of my hand open. Last time I played with a hurt device while distracted.

Amazing number of "gun safety autists" in these comments.

I'm sure none of them have ever exceeded the speed limit, because that would be so scary and unsafe.
