Hitler meant what he said and felt deeply for his German people. Even though they lived in different states, he considered the all Volk, one people, divided by culture and different governments, but one blood. He loved and admired his people, and when became chancellor, he toured the country to learn more about the people he would govern so he could understand them better. He admired and respected the working classes, which was where he came from, and wanted them to bond in their Germanness and the skills that were so crucial for Germany. He just didn't want it to be in the form of jewish unions, which always create division and and contention.
