Back in December on /preppers, I told y'all that I was stopping grocery shopping in December.

Indeed, December was my last full shopping trip. I've done a couple of "top up" trips since then. Nothing big but it was to adjust to what my expectations for usage were against reality. I've done three top ups. Each one was about $300 (really between $250 and $300 and included some higher priced items) and it wasn't even one-quarter of the amount of food I bought in December.

As I recall, a few people said I pulled the trigger too early.

It's interesting to note this from the article:

– Eggs (up a whopping 40% from last year)

– Butter and margarine (29%)

– Deli meats (18%)

– Milk (17%)

– Bread (17%)

– Cereal (17%)

– Canned vegetables (17%)

– Potatoes (15%)

Of those, stocked up on eggs (about 12 dozen), butter (about 15 pounds), milk (4 gallons with cases of shelf-stable and coffee creamers), canned goods (sooo much of this), and a small stock of sliced meats (frozen). I stocked up on flour instead of bread. The only cereals I eat are the Count Chocula, Frankenberry, and Booberry cereals you can only get at Halloween now. And you can stock up on potatoes only so much if they're not a very large part of your diet.

Let's also talk about the cost of coffee which has gone up to insane amounts. And I use xylitol and stevia instead of sugar in my coffee (which has nearly doubled in price since then).

I stocked up on large cuts of meats and am making a batch of jerky today.

I've given 99% of everything from my garden away this year as I promised but grab an occasional tomato, a few peppers, an eggplant, and a few cucumbers here and there. I grabbed one watermelon and two cantaloupe for myself as well. I kept all peaches that were 1/4 or more bad, and most of my grapes (since those weren't on the original offering anyway). I kept maybe 10 ears of corn and enjoyed the shit out of those.

I now have about a gallon of watermelon jelly (I'm turning the leftover juice into soda), more jars of peach jelly than I know what to do with, maybe a gallon of home made relish and another of bread and butter pickles, maybe a gallon of grape jelly. I still have about 4 gallons of mint leaves that I freeze dried and powdered and I'm about to make a jar of mint jelly just for kicks.

I'm set. All y'all who didn't listen when you were warned... well, it's too late now. There are random shortages of everything and you can't afford to stock up. There's a recession coming which is likely to become another global depression since every economy on the planet is fucked with inflation.

If you can manage it, stock up now but you're otherwise pretty fucked.

How does all this shake out when accounting for inflation

What do you mean? It means I've spent only maybe $700 in groceries in 9 months which would be closer to maybe $300 previously.

I'm asking you to compare $(2021)1 to $(2022)1 and adjust those numbers you're saying went up in price. If it's up 9% because of inflation, is it up anything at all? Assuming people are smart enough to quit their jobs and find new ones.

I can see you have a problem with reading comprehension.

I just noticed another 25% increase in the low end stuff I buy.

And pretty soon Dollar tree will need to go to $1.50 instead of $1.25.

Time to start putting Biden "I did that" stickers next to food prices.

Higher food prices are a good thing if you're smart enough
