When asked he proposed the creation of three Arab states. He had a high opinion of Arabs in civilizational terms and believed in their cultural homogeneity. Regardless, the overriding goal was geopolitical - destruction and defeat of Turkish power. It's hardly likely he could have influenced the Arabs the way he did had he had your attitude - that the Arabs were to fight the Ottomans just to replace them with the French and British.

In the ancient world Jerusalem was pretty much a place of no account - made prominent later by people not from there adopting religions which gave it significance.
