The Vatican obelisk was taken from Egypt by Caligula and put where it is that long ago. It's over 4000 years old. The Romans had Obelisks moved from Egypt to Rome, and that's where most came from afterwards. So gifts from Rome as symbols of a winning system isn't unspeakable
St Peter was killed somewhere near there and it's come to be a vague reference.
Napoleon took an obelisk and plopped it down in Paris. There are around three in that city. The Luxor obelisk in Paris was given to France by Rome in the early 1800's
The one in London was presented as a gift from the Egypt in the 1830's.
The bones of the American and Western political system is based on the Roman one with Christian laws so the obelisks wren't likely nefarious
