It takes a few months of daily use to build up a layer of grease. During that time stick to fatty meats like bacon. My eggs stick a little, but after it cools the bits that stuck peel off and can easily be scraped into the trash in a few seconds.
Same here. I tried so many times to make eggs on my iron skillet but they always end up a horrible mess. Other stuff is okay tho. If meats start to stick at the end of cooking it's usually okay after you deglaze it with wine.
That's the problem I don't really know how to season it properly. It's about 8 inches for 2 eggs. It just about gets to a point where they slide out but when I clean it it's back to square one.

Interesting.
Excerpt from article: >Flax seed oil is the edible version of linseed oil, a very durable, hard drying finish that painters and woodworkers have been using for a very long time. As Cheryl Canter writes on her site: "The seasoning on cast iron is formed by fat polymerization, fat polymerization is maximized with a drying oil, and flaxseed oil is the only drying oil that’s edible."
It's what my grandma always used and it's worked well for me for years. I'd recommend still putting some bacon grease in the pan before cooking cornbread though

Don't clean it. My cast iron egg pan is better than Teflon. It hasn't been cleaned with water in at least a decade. I wipe it out, and oil it if necessary.
It's pretty easy..spread your choice of cooking oil over the surface, and bake it as hot as your oven will cook for 10 minutes until the pan is smoking. Repeat this process 3 to5 times. I don't even need butter to fry eggs on mine with out sticking.
Concur. I use my ribbed cast iron grill skillet on average twice a week for a grass fed sirloin steak. It's awesome, have perfected the seared outer crust with the juicy pink inside - is Soooo fcking good man.

You reseason every time. It's going to take awhile to get that almost glass look.

Skip to 8 minutes. I use bacon grease. Or just veg oil if I don't have any.

Why would you recommend Flax seed oil for this? It has a low smoke point and goes rancid at room temp.

Frying eggs in a stainless pan is really messy.
