That's probably true. But I doubt that the Taliban destroyed them with the thought of honoring the Buddhist conceptions of impermanence. This was between the Taliban and their own Islamic people, with the act taken out on monuments. I don't think Buddhists are actually relevant to the thing being described.

That's the thing, I remember the propaganda from the late 90s to the 2000s. The DOD put out "the other side of the mountain" where they talked about how the mujahadeen fought, they put this out around 96. Part of the propaganda was "the Taliban is flogging hindus in the street on Sunday morning", followed by "they are destroying muh cultural heritage!!!". Yet no one relevant to that region gave a shit about those statues.

Hindsight is a cruel thing, they were building up for a war in Afghanistan for 5 years before 9/11. To this day i can not figure out why. Thinking back i wonder if that money was really for statue restoration, or if the Taliban KNEW of some sort of black project that the money was being funneled into.

To the communist mind, this is a victory. In reality it is self destruction. Many here will say "they do not care about money, they will push the agenda!!" This is not the reality. When you say it really is about selling things, and that they just don't understand all of the things you listed, what do you say to the article's contradicting argument? That it would be foolish to think we so easily figured out why they are financially failing and they can't figure it out, when they have access to more industry information than we do and have countless people working for them whose whole job is just to track and analyze these things?

I've got no doubt that they are short-sighted have have messed up priorities, so maybe they don't see some things that should be obvious. But I don't think they're stupid.

Something i have suspected, but have no proof, is that the "top" whores got there because of algorithm manipulation. They can get away with it because there is no law against it.
