Will likely be Wednesday before all results tallied, but reports this morning give the right wing coalition a final lead of 176-173 or 175-174 depending on what you read. A slender margin of victory but notable nonetheless considering the SocDems stranglehold on power there and the generally left leaning preferences of voters. Italy expected to swing right later this month with Fratelli d’Italia poised to make huge gains.

The other way of looking at things is it is those sorts who are orchestrating these results. Europe is on the brink of a pretty serious energy crisis, inflation is pretty rampant and recession all but inevitable at this point. It could be argued that this is precisely the time to elevate those whom you oppose to power to deal with crises not of their making, but for which they will shoulder most of the blame in the eyes of fickle electorates.
